Generator Generator options

Thanks so much for all the info. Originally I was looking at a standalone diesel generator. My truck is a diesel, my tractor is a diesel, i've got diesel fuel around the house. But when I started doing some research I found a lot of 25Kw+ pto generators for sale in the area in the $1000-1500 range. For that price I figured a pto generator was the way to go, at least for now. We can live pretty comfortably without power for a little while- I heat with wood, & the well is gravity fed with the pump only for water pressure. There is still warm enough water 24 hours after the power goes out. And we cook with propane. But the last power outage was almost a week. I think I wouldn't worry about electricity during the day & just fire it up at night for a few hours. That way the tractor would be free for clean up work.
