Ye got to remember, down here, if we get 1/2" of snow, hey, we're stuck. Cain't (tell ye daughter to get used to hearing it said that way) even get out of our driveways.
Folks in and around Atlanta may not be able to navigate vehicles when they get a rare significant snowfall...but they are smart enough to stock up on essentials well beforehand...unless it's a freak, unpredicted occurrence by the time the snow starts to stick there won't be a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk, etc. etc... on any of the grocery store shelves...just a word of warning to a newcomer...Ayup ABF is the trucking company. Taxes may be high in Georgia but not higher then Vermont so she is already used to it. She will stay put on a snow day in Dixie not because she can't drive in it but because all the other drivers can neither drive in it or stop in it. Even here your worst worry when you come onto an accident scene on the highway during a snow storm is the guy behind you that is probably driving faster then his tires and abilities allow. Even four wheel drives slide a long ways on all season radials and the drivers don't seem to realize that once you touch the brakes all cars have four wheel brakes and it is just a matter of your starting speed and your tire tread.
Thanks for the advice but you are preaching to the choir. She is one of the daughters of "vtsnowedin" and understands that the name is sometimes literal. You will never catch her unprepared.Folks in and around Atlanta may not be able to navigate vehicles when they get a rare significant snowfall...but they are smart enough to stock up on essentials well beforehand...unless it's a freak, unpredicted occurrence by the time the snow starts to stick there won't be a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk, etc. etc... on any of the grocery store shelves...just a word of warning to a newcomer...
Perhaps a bit better then that as it is between the University and the super highway that runs north of it. No need to get off local streets to get to work. The bad days will be when she has to travel and has to cross town to get to the airport. Unfortunately the job entails quite a bit of travel.Sorry that the close-by residence didn't work out. 10mi is usually not too bad. Maybe only an hour on bad days!
