We knew it was coming. How long it lasts is the issue. Looks like about 2 weeks.

And here I am - in my shorts and T-shirt. Been one of the wettest, warmest winters on record here in Ea WA state. But, I'm not fooled - winter isn't over yet.

We (St. Louis) are forecasted as +3 F for the low Saturday night/Sunday morning. That will be by far the coldest yet this winter.

Deer have been enjoying chowing down on the radish cover crop.

Last evening from my great room window.

Nice picture! I’d be able to have an adult beverage watching that view.

That reminds me to go fill up all the fuel containers so we have more than plenty for the tractor and generator if needed. Don't like to start the tractor when it is that dang cold out. In north central Indiana the are expecting a warm up above freezing then plunge into the polar vortex. So we may get a transition period of sleet or feezing rain. That could bring down power lines just as the vortex is getting going.

It's been a mild winter here in south central PA. Only real snowfall was just before Christmas @ 14"

We got 8" over the last two days and it's still snowing lightly. But it's not real cold; running 26-32.

We have a lot of deer around here. Neighbors on both sides feed them so it's not unusual to see groups of 6-10..

Tomorrow is fill the porch with firewood day because the next day we get snow, then, the cold comes. :squirrel: The extended outlook continues to look chilly too. :cold:

^^^ I moved some wood up today. Tomorrow it comes into the garage. Not planning on burning until Sunday night.

The groundhog didn't see his shadow here today, darnit. Does that mean that we can look forward to 6 more weeks of mud, sleet, and freezing rain, and otherwise miserable conditions?

I saw on TV that the official groundhog DID see his shadow. Doesn’t the official groundhog trump local groundhogs?

By the way, that official groundhog is big! Sorry, but if he was making a mess of my areas he’d be in groundhog heaven.

I hope that you're right.
I can handle another 6 weeks of decent winter, it's the rain and sleet like what's landing on my roof right now that I don't like.

When this thread appeared yesterday AM I checked the longer range forecast...the projected low for Sunday night/Monday morning was in the lower teens...it (projected forecast) has slowly risen...it now says the low for that time is 30*...so something has definitely changed as far as the arctic vortex and it's reaches...The forecasts (NOAA) are constantly being updated...so we'll see...!

For me it is make sure the generator is full of fuel and the gas cans full... eventhough I know they are becuse I filled them after the last outage in early January.... but we double check. Tractor fuel has been treated for cold weather and hay has been moved into horse stall barn so I do not have to do it in the freezing cold.
