It's been a while since I've been on the forum (shame on me). I just ordered a JD260 backhoe attachment for my 1023e. In order to keep the cost down I made the decision to install it myself. I've reviewed the online manuals an feel confident about the installation. Has anyone experience installing the 260? If so let me know what your take on it was. I do have to modify the back support panel of the Curtis cab. The back panel needs to be lower to allow for the operators legs to reach the backhoe foot platform. I called Curtis and they said they have plans to modify this but it's still in engineering. I think I've engineered my own solution and will cut out the leg clearance and make an insert panel for winter use. I'm excited about using the unit to get several small jobs done on my property. If anyone has a JD260 backhoe on their tractor let me know what your experience with its has been. Thanks.

I have a 260 on my 2305 and am very happy with it. Lets just say I do very little shoveling. The backhoe is slow compared with a larger model but very capable for its size. I did a 40-50 foot long gas line trench for propane in a very short amount of time through sandy soil with few rocks. I use of for planting bushes etc a bit of overkill but less shoveling. I have used it to remove small stumps and it works well at that. It is not a commercial backhoe but if your patient it will get the job done. Mine sits in the garage while the 2305 mows the lawn but when necessary it does not take much time to mount and be ready for use.

Thanks mred for the reply. Glad to know you are pleased with your 260 backhoe. I realize it's not an excavator but a small lightweight machine and it has it's limitations. However, a friend of mine always says "as we get older it's better to work smarter not harder" so down with shovels I say. I to use my 1023 for many tasks throughout the year, mowing, snow blowing and now digging. What a great little machine.
