Rotten mice nested in my tractor last year and got acorns everywhere. There wasn't any food on my tractor until they brought it with them.

I discovered by accident that the CO2 idea works. When we first moved to our present location the shop/garage was over run with mice. The amount of destruction the little suckers can do is amazing.
At the time we had a car that either had to be run or have a battery charged every couple of weeks, as these things happen my charger was missing after the move. One morning I went to do the start and run on the car and after I started it I went to do some other jobs. Four or five hours later I remembered the car and shut it off.
I do not know why but to this day (20 years later) mice will inhabit the shop.
I expect that you would have to use a gas engine rather than diesel.

I had what you could call an infestation of mice laast fall when they decided it was time to move in for the season. haphazard trap placement yielded haphazard results, but there were some veterans in the mouse crowd that resisted termination. At work, we recently hired a fellow who is a trapper and while running his own line, catches household, skunks, coons and helps with vermin. He says you need to set the trap sideways and limit or direct the flow to the trap so they can only come at it that way. Anchor the trap. I mounted the traps to a piece of 1x12 and screwed a couple 2x6s to create the funnel and put a top on it. Used raw bacon or a piece of hard cheese like cheddar that you can push onto the trigger and coated with a bit of peanut butter. I think they preferred the raw bacon, but both worked. It worked!

Mix 1 gallon of the real turpentine and 1 gallon of linseed oil. If you got a wood floor it will water proof and preserve it plus all your mice will find another place to live. If not wood floor but wood walls brush or roll it on the walls. Works for the Amish and for me.

Hey Guys, I have a mouse problem in my shop and have an idea of how to get rid of them without messy traps or dangerous poisons. See what you think.
I thought I would simply start up my John Deere 790 and let it run for an hour letting diesel fumes and carbon monoxide kill the litttle critters. Now my shop is well insulated and pretty air tight so the fumes will certainly fill up the shop area. Do you guys think the mouse will suffocate or as they are getting little headaches in their little heads do you think they will try to scamper outdoors. Oh, Im gonna put a timer on the tractor while Im outside the shop. Think it will work?

The best thing I have ever used to this day is a five gallon bucket filled w/ water to about the two gallon point, then on the top of the bucket strech a piece of single strand copper wire ( or steel) across the center, over the water.
This wire should be about 20 or 22 guage so the mice have a hard time balancing.
Put some peanut butter in the center of this wire.
When the mouse gets tired of the tight rope act they fall in the water! If it's winter, just use anti freeze. This is a repeater type set up and works 24/7 365 1/4!

The war department never lost a war, the defense department never won a war!

The bucket idea is great - I'll have try it.

Has anyone made a DIY ratzapper? I've read the posts about using electricity but they seem to indicate that they don't kill them? - confused. I'd like to try to make one that just instantly zaps em. Seems more humane than drowning :) I've got some ideas but wondered if anyone else had already done it.

You will need capacitor discharge or 220 volts..to kill the mouse...110 volts just made them jump..

I am so making two of these! One for my house, another for the workshop. I'm thrilled! I can't wait to catch all of these little terrors!

The little turds even steal my dog's food from his bowl! I found a box in my storage room with a good gallon of food in it.
