Getting rid of Moles/Voles

Well, you probably should have started a new thread for Prairie Dogs....so as to get more responses.

If it was Moles, like the OP started, I could tell you my success. So far this year I have trapped 35 moles. They were bad this earlier summer, due to the lots of rain and soft soil...I guess. Trapping Moles is an ongoing job around here. Prairie Dogs I can't say anything about.

Watch Caddie Shack and you will see what your in for.
Avoid poison. You will kill a lot more than the prairie dogs.

There are attachments for your exhaust pipe to gas them out.

It looks much like this. The Prairie Dog holes are deeper and getting the surrounding ground to blast upward is rare.

just name them, and pretend they are pets: i have battled moles for years: people keep telling me, "i use to have a dog/cat that would get rid of moles all around the place". i would BUY a dog or cat that i knew would do that: and i don't want a dog or cat.

I probably have 35 moles in the yard right now. The tunnels are everywhere. And I've tried 2 different kinds of traps and have not caught or killed a single one. What's the secret to your success?

I walk the area that the mole(s) is working and select what looks like a fresh and main tunnel. I use the Victor Model 0645. My best traps are from the 70's. Then I bought a couple in the the 90's. This spring I bought six more......the same model number. Each purchase was a slightly different design..with the same model number. With a total of 12 traps either set all in one area or at different sites, I usually get the critter(s) in the first 24 hours.

After the first day or so, the mole is either caught or has moved on. One mole can look like a whole army working your yard.

We used to just pour gasoline down the hole, wait a minute or two and throw in a match. The explosion would blow rats out of the hole, usually on fire. They would run a few feet and then just fall down dead. Caught the corn crib on fire once, the rats had burrows to the crib and when the flames shot out of the hole, it caught the corn shucks on fire. Liked to have had a video of two young boys slinging corn out of the crib and stomping out the fire. Wasnt fun doing the slinging and stomping, but I bet it would have been fun to watch. LOL

This product hit the PNW with a lot of fanfare. I know a lot of people who bought it and liked it.

Not sure on how they work on Gophers, seems to small to do any damage, but my neighbor uses this on his yard and has pretty good luck

The pinchers are OK, the spikes don't work so well.
