Getting "Rid Of" your Aluminum Cans

No one gets penalized if the containers are returned. If not, then they loose their money based on how much it matters to them. Guessing, welfare people, would throw them out anyway. So, a wrinkle in that thinking, I guess.

Improper disposal such as placing in regular trash collection will trigger a fine for repeat offenders...

Oh boy. I've read about the wheelie bin police in Europe. Didn't realize it was a thing here. Well, thinking about it, they use to refuse to take yard waste in the trash container here in town, but no fines that I know of.

I remember feeling no fond attraction for Germany, visiting their as a child, being told I couldn't take a bath or shower at certain times for fear of disturbing neighbors.

There is no deposit here but I do take AL cans, glass bottles and paper to the free recycling (Same place takes yard waste, large metal, batteries, oil, antifreeze, TVs, cardboard etc.). Also they take garbage but that you have to pay for and you have to have garbage for a minimum $11 fee. They used to have no fee for recycling only but people dumped garbage in the recycles. Once they made people pay a min garbage fee people started dumping garbage in the garbage and recycles in the recycles. Go figure.

On the aluminum cans I stuff ~clean used aluminum foil in the can before crushing it. They do not take aluminum foil by itself.

What isn't fair? Same violation, same ticket, same fine... Please tell me you don't want to penalize the rich just because they are rich...

No, i'm rich, why would i do that.

If a penalty is supposed to hurt, then make it hurt. My brother makes big big bucks, if he gets a ticket for $200 it's absolutely meaningless.

If a blue collar guy making wages gets that same ticket the penalty is so so much more harsh. Different penalty, same offense.

If folks don't understand, or do understand and don't agree so be it.

But, if you think we have a fair and equal civil.....or criminal legal system, then we disagree again. Some one said Patty's conviction was reduced then dropped, gimme a break!

From what I understand there are different grades/types of aluminum and they shouldn't be mixed. Beverage can stock is a grade by itself, somehow different than foil, pie pans, cat food/sardine cans, old license plates, etc. At our transfer station there are separate bins for cans and another for other types.

Ditto for plastics...apparently the type 1 plastic used in screw-top bottles & jars is somehow different than the type 1 boxes deli items, hardware, etc. are packaged in. At the very least the company that takes the recyclables from our town won't accept it if they're mixed.

Unfortunately, the margin on recycled materials is very small.

:mur: I've seen others use this emoji. The talk of penalizing someone for the same "offense" based upon how much money that have has me doing it. I'm dumbfounded at the thought process or lack thereof. The HUGE number of insane examples of REAL life just has me at a complete disconnect. Maybe it's from my personal experiences with government agencies which are suppose to serve us, government agencies which purchase products, the court system, reading the local news, knowing people who "work the system", knowing that people have difference of opinion and have ZERO tolerance, working for a job with an auto union, and dealing closely with lawyers. Argh, brain hurts too much.

At the most serious end of the spectrum, whether you are found guilty of murder, whether you did it or not, often boils down to how much you can afford on legal talent.

On the other side of the penalty coin, I also don't wish for more beurocrats, to administer any more systems and departments.

Most Iowa stores have had a "hold" on taking back cans for the deposit $, since March. They're blaming COVID. Can't crush them. Storing them now has become an "issue"... Stinky.

That's weird. The recycle machines here crush both the cans and plastic bottles as they are scanned. Only the glass goes into a bin, everything else gets mashed into a pallet tote. Feeding the machine does the count once. Nobody is going to count it twice.

Patty was brainwashed. They kept her in a dark closet and fed her LSD, then took turns indoctrinating her. By the time she saw the light of day again, she was turned.
