Getting Serious About Buying My First Tractor......Which One?

That's not entirely accurate. They don't have a regen which forces the tractor to burn hot for a period of time to burn the soot off of the collector but MF (and Mahindra) has a mCRD (DOC system) system which runs hotter all the time to burn off the soot. This is not new technology and is really is dishonest for a tractor mfg to tout this as a benefit over DPF.

DOC is a catalytic converter. The exhaust gas passes through a material which oxidizes/breaks down the environmentally "harmful" stuff. "The diesel oxidation catalyst is designed to oxidize carbon monoxide, gas phase hydrocarbons, and the SOF fraction of diesel particulate matter to CO2 and H2O"

A DPF is a more extensive breakdown system. It usually has a DOC, then a DPF. Some systems also use Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), in addition, which is yet another addition, spraying that fluid the exhaust to further break down the "harmful" particles.
" Exhaust gas passes through the DOC and then into the DPF where Pariculate Matter is collected on the walls of the DPF. The PM collected is then oxidized to remove it from the DPF. This is known as regeneration. When operating conditions maintain sufficient exhaust temperatures, the DPF is continually self-regenerating. This is known as passive regeneration and results in clean exhaust out of the tailpipe. On very infrequent occasions, an active self-regeneration is required to remove a build-up of PM in the DPF, due to insufficient exhaust temperatures. Exhaust temperatures are raised by injecting a small amount of fuel upstream; The resulting chemical reaction over the DOC raises exhaust gas temperatures high enough to oxidize the PM from the filter."

What I said was entirely true. I said " It has no DPF or regen". "It is an excellent tractor". What I said was true. I know a thing or 2 about them. They have a very simple system which requires no maintenance. No DPF, No DEF, and no regeneration.

But you were implying, like the mfg, as if having no DPF or regen is new technology or is somehow better.

That is misleading and I take it as someone selling me a bill of goods.

Just like some tractor mfg put "Made in USA on the loader arms" knowing full well the tractor was not made in the USA but only the loader arm.

I wasnt implying anything. I factually stated it has no DPF and does not regen. I then stated it was an excellent tractor. Where did you see my misleading implication?
You proceeded to write 4 paragraphs about how It wasn't entirely true. So, what are you implying?

Mitsubishi made Mahindra's are amazing tractors, I can talk much about the rest of their product line.

My personal opinion with everything said here, stick with the Kubota MX series...that is unless you really want/need a cab.
No tractor is perfect, none, but Kubota stand behind their product.
Also, if you find a good dealer (no matter the brand) see what they offer...
Good luck.

Call it what you will but the Mahindra regens ALL the time.

I was looking at both new and used tractors of several different brands before finding the L4240HSTC this past December. This is my third Kubota and had 977 hours on it when I bought it. The other two were purchased new in 2002 and 2012. Used tractors and Mahindras were on the list because I simply don't care to have a DPF. When I checked out a used Kioti at a Massey Fergusen dealership, the salesman said MF would be doing something along the mCRD line in the near future.

One thing I didn't like on the Mahindras was the less than comfortable cabs. My body is 2XL in some places and the cabs only come in XL:) The two new Mahindras I drove both had seats that didn't give me sufficient leg room. Fit and finish was good, but the loader was more difficult to find that sweet spot Neil mentioned in his video.

Of those three the MX would be my choice;stronger loader than the L4701;personally wouldn't consider Mahindra.Anyone I know that purchased one is "not" happy.I know one fellow that waited three months for a starter on a fairly new machine.Neighbor purchased a TYM;kept it less than a year.
Another mahindra basher who doesnt own one , i have two and they are both great.

So what your saying is that if my brother, neighbor and friend all had purchased one and communicated thier displeasure with it. I have absolutely no reason to pass that information on?

That’s totally absurd and you know it!

I do agree you have to evaluate that information when passing it on and if possible be very specific but ownership is not a requirement for posting concern. If you disagree with him why not question him more in depth about the number of complaints, what they were all about and maybe the timeframe of them as we all know things do change with time.

By the way who built the 2538 and the 2810?
Are they TYM built, Mitsubishi or Mahindra built?

Could be a deciding factor for someone buying as I have seen a big difference when I shopped Mahindra last. Not going to dig out the sales brochures or anything but some were not really up to my standards and all Those seemed to be built by one manufacture while the other two were not far off.

DISCLAIMER

I am not an owner, simply someone who shopped the brand 5 years ago and wasn’t completely impressed with all thier machines, the dealers that were close to me at the time and some of he prices that were given when compared to other brands.
