Given an Air Compressor Today

Sometimes, it's not enough (I also run a Sullaire Rotary screw and a 5 horse Champion for backup. I own a machine shop (we do die work) plus I own a CNC plasma table, all use lots of air and last year I added a Kahlenberg steam whistle to the side of the shop that I like to blow...on air too. I started with the screw compressor and added the Saylor Beal because I like the sound and it was cheap and I picked up the Champion at a plant closing in Toledo.

Told my wife I was going to buy an electric over air automatic valve for the Kahlenberg so it would toot every hour. She nixed that idea.

Couple weeks ago I looked at a Gardner-Denver V type 4 cylinder double 2 stage (duplex) running a 30 horse GE 480/3 but that would really spin the electric meter. It was puking oil pretty bad and would be an expensive rebuild. Even industrial compressors get neglected. Probably went to the scrapper. No receiver.

I just got offered a Campbell Hausfeld 7 horse vertical aftercooled 2 stage on a 75 gallon receiver single phase 220 with a mag starter for 500 bucks. I may grab that and resell it. List on it is 1500 at Compressors Direct. It's in nice shape (checked the oil, it's moderately dirty and spun it over and it makes all the right sounds). Has a Solberg filter too. Pulled the tank drain and the receiver was dry, another plus.

Ok, need some help again. I feel kinda silly but I went to install the new switch today and noticed the switch has TWO pressure lines going to it. I think the one I hadn't noticed is a safety shutoff if the switch malfunctions and the tank over pressurizes? The switch I bought has only one pressure input. I think I can just remove the second pressure line and be fine. here are some pictures:

One line unloads the compressor head (so the compressor starts with no pressure in the head) and the other senses the tank pressure. You have to start the compressor unloaded or it won't start...too much resistance on the motor.

Should be an unloader line. Takes pressure off the compressor when off so it starts w/o load. Does it connect to a check valve on the tank end? ... That connection looks too close to the hot line to be using plastic.

No check valve on the tank side (first 2 pics). Could be bulit into the switch side (last pic). The pin you can see moves in and out and mechanicaly contact part on the on/off switch.
