Giving Hunting a Bad Name ... way ta go!

Thingy, I'm 43 and I killed my first deer when I was 9. So that's 34 years of hunting pretty regularly. I'd say 2 bucks a year is about average. Some years none. Some years 4 or 5. I've killed 2 in one day before. So maybe less than 100, maybe 60 or so. I more selective now and last year didn't pull the trigger and this year only shot one nice 8 pointer.

I need to be shooting more does. We have _lots_ of deer here and it is good for the herd to keep the does under control. But most days I don't even feel like dressing one.

But, that's nothing. I'm sure there are younger guys on this site who have killed way more. I have a good friend in his late 60's who has killed well over 500 deer. Mostly bucks. As an extreme, I know guys who shoot them from stands on soybean fields who kill 50 or 60 a year. They consider them to be pests and don't even pick them up (they call local folks who are glad to have the meat.) But, it really isn't a sport for them, they're just trying to keep them out of their fields. (It doesn't work!)

You guys down south raise deer like we raise rats. I wish we had that kind of a deer population up here in the N.E. Sometimes you can spend a whole day in the woods and not see a single deer. Even weeks if your not lucky. Not to mention that you can go years without ever shooting one.

So its down to 60 now,,,I eat all mine, don't give much away, yeah, deer can be pests to farmers, thats a fact. For past 25 years I've just hunted in deer seasons, and was working many years when I couldn't hunt,,and was in the army for three years,,etc,,I'm 51. Most years the limit is three bucks here,,,10-15 years ago it was just 1,,when I was growing up there wern't hardly any deer,in my part of w.va.,,,this year for example, your limit[bow and gun] was three bucks] and they didn't have a doe season this year here.Yeah, looked at your bio and saw you got out of a military accademy,in what,86?,,and was a doctor,,you must also love to deer hunt,,,just joshing you about being in your 60's,,,thingy

What gets me is when a non hunter gets shot during hunting season its their fault for walking outside without orange on...BULL !!
One of my co workers told me he was sitting out, when he heard a noise coming through the bushs,he sees something ,not sure what picks up his rifle, points it ,takes off the safety ,then a voice says please dont shoot me.It was the landowner carrying out tree bows to make wreaths.Guess that will be posted next yea:mad: When he told this story at work there were 3 others who admit pointing there guns at people.unfreakinbelievable!!!
My dad taught us alot different ,these guys shouldnt be allowed to hunt in my opinion.

I could not agree more. I've hunted since I was a boy. I've shot numerous deer. I've NEVER seen another animal, even brown dog, that I thought looked anything like a deer. Humans certainly do not look like a deer, even without orange. Anyone reckless enough to shoot another should do the time. Stop and think first. There is nothing wrong with letting an animal walk by to make sure of what is going on. Giving up the shot is all part of being sporting.
