It's the higher level of EP and Anti-wear required for GL-5 performance that generally make those oils aggressive to yellow metals. In actual fact the GL-4 performance tests have not been available for several decades but what many oil companies do is to simply take the GL-5 additive and halve the treatment level to make a 'GL-4'. The lower concentration will give an approximation of the claimed GL-4 performance but without being so aggressive in terms of yellow metal corrosion.
