Just curious. I have always wondered. Watched Eve (BOLTR) the other day. What's with fingerless gloves? Does this help to keep fingers warm, yet available for service?

Yes. I wear wool fingerless gloves fairly often when ice fishing. Keeps most of your hand warm and dry, yet keeps your fingertips available for dexterity. When you aren't using your fingers, you just make loose fists and the fingertips curl up in the wool of the palms anyway. On really cold or wet or windy days I slip on oversized welder's mittens over the fingerless gloves. Easy to take off quickly when the fishies bite.

My favorite Gortex gloves have seen better days. I'm considering trying a mitten.

Anyone changed over from a glove to a mitten? How do you like mittens?

If you don't need finger work, mittens are warmer.

What kind of lifting tongs are those in your signature line? Sorry for the tangent.

It's a "Timber Tuff TMW-54 Mini Log Grapple", that I added 7 sets of additional teeth that help grab smaller diameter logs (it's grabbing strength is from the weight of the log).

Here's a picture of my system to cut up a load of logs from a logging truck.

And here's a link to TSC:

Also since taking this picture I've reinforced the top edge of my FEL bucket (because I had noticed a very sight flex when picking up 14" - 16" diameter logs).

Sorry for the off topic post jaydee325...

Definitely, just as wearing a sleeveless vest keeps your body warmer. I used to lay out and survey precommercial forest thinning blocks. I was doing a lot of writing, so wore fingerless gloves and had a pair of wool mittens inside leather "choppers" mittens which were big enough to put my gloved hands into. Back then the plastic flagging wasn't as cold resistant as it is now, so every time that I
tied a ribbon I would have to warm it in my hand first.

Gloves IF I HAVE to, never mittens though.

Once the cold gets to your fingers through gloves or mittens they are not doing much good...
If I have to work in the cold I keep several pairs of the cheapo brown cloth gloves (10 pairs for $10 deals)...
...And I use chemical hand warmers...I always have a pair of the above mentioned gloves wrapped up around the had warmers...when it gets to the point where your fingers just quit working...it's nice to slip on a pair of really warm gloves...

All of my fingers have been broken at one time or another. Several of them multiple times. My right hand little finger and ring finger have some damage causing them to get cold fast. Actuallylly physically cold to the touch when my other fingers are warm. I need to keep gloves somewhat loose because the tight ones seem to expedite the cold. I never really liked mittens..But in extreme cold if I'm not working with my hands..they would probably be warmer
