Glow plugs are gone at 540 hours

Ok, checked the Chinese plugs i borrowed from my neighbor, Exactly like the ones which are sold on Amazon for Cummins A2300.
Connected directly to the tractor battery, they are getting hot BUT!!! they NEVER glow! Was holding them connecter for over 10 seconds. The wires already became hot.
Checked the original one which was still good. It starts glowing after approximately 3 seconds.

Now the question, should they glow or very hot is good enough?

All the glow plugs that I have checked glow cherry red within a few seconds. The purpose of glow plug is to ignite the fuel spray as it enters the combustion chamber. Getting hot will help heat the mix but not certain if would ignite it.

If you aren't at least seeing them get to a dull cherry red you must not be getting adequate current to them. The wires getting very hot would tend to imply that also. The ones I have dealt with had a buss bar that ran from glow plug to glow plug. Are you using large enough wire when testing them? I think 12 gauge would be a minimum size.

Another question, i found out that the glow plugs are always have 12V coming to them, not only before the start. Is it normal? In my opinion they should not receive any power after the engine started, otherwise they will burn very often, which probably happened in my case.

Most tractors only have a basic on/off switch controlled by the operator. Some engines do monitor coolant temperature and keep the plugs on a short time after start. If they’re staying on more than a couple minutes that’s not supposed to happen.

Connected directly to a new, fully charged Marine battery, one directly on the "-" and another with a jump cable, which i guess has an adequate size for the task, also, as i mentioned before, the original one was starting glowing in 2-3 seconds. The Chinese one didn't, even after 10 seconds.

Anyways, the NGK Y-112TS ordered and will be here soon
Also, thanks to PTSG i found that NGK Y-112M1 and NGK 112T also compatible and possible to purchase directly from NGK website.
