I work for GM and am currently located at the Wentzville Assembly plant where we are launching the US built replacement for the Colorado and Canyon. It is not confirmed yet if the diesel option will be sold here in the states. I hit on this topic in another thread. We will be building a diesel but it MIGHT be for export only.

I read your post about that but this was the fist time that I read something saying that it would be coming to the US as well.

Next up: General Motors, which is readying plans to offer a diesel in the next-generation Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-sized pickups, three people familiar with GM's plans told Automotive News. The redesigned pickups are slated to get a version of GM's 2.5-liter or 2.8-liter, four-cylinder Duramax turbodiesels, which power the Colorado in overseas markets. The diesel option will be added to the U.S. lineup about a year after the fall 2014 launch of the redesigned trucks, the sources say.

Granted all they cite is "sources" but the fact that someone is saying a rough date is a sign that it could happen.

How does anybody expect acceptance of the light diesel in the personal transportation market in North America? Anybody here ever vote for the party that supports the EPA? Anybody expect light diesel personal vehicles to suceed in a market where diesel costs more than gasoline?
Who is ready to start replacing common rail injectors, glow plugs, particulate filters and urea injection after the end of warranty?
Want to see diesels that work. You have to go to some backwards 3rd world country where the manufactures can't sell something unreliable. Turbo V6 diesels in Haiti by Mazda, Toyota etc I rode in this year are what diesels are supposed to be.

If the engine is small enough it's exempt from some of the EPA regulations. Look at the VW diesels and what level of emissions they get.

EPA.......ethanol......restrictions on more reliable diesel vehicles....diesel fuel more expensive than premium ethanol gasoline.....so just what is 3rd world about 3rd world countries???? This is America, land of the free......so why didn't we get to have 10% ethanol gas and the increased cost of manufacturing vehicles it won't ruin on a referrendum to vote on instead of having it "forced down our throats" by those in power who know what's best for us(and the environment????). I love my country....but this stinks!!!!!

Last really reliable and powerful North American light diesel was the 6BT Cummins with the IBT Cummins 2nd.

Gassers are the simple cheap reliable durable engine now. News of 300,000 miles on gasser is met with a bored yawn. 6 air filters, three changes of spark plugs, oil and filter changes, fuel filters, 2-3 fan belts a water pump, a starter, an alternator and one battery a time every 3-5 years. That's it.

A 3rd Gen CR 5.9 Cummins will easily go 250k+ on original injectors if the fuel filter is changed regularly.

Many only last 100k, but what I've seen in those instances the maintenance was poor.

A gasser won't last 500k in a hotshot business. It won't do the work either.

"WE" should just adopt the Euro emissions and crash specs. Would open our countries up to all the vehicles in the world market, plus save the automakers billions, maybe reducing prices we pay for vehicles. It'll never happen as much as it should though.

I'm not sure I want any more of the global market than we already have.

Of all those diesel trucks rolling off the production line. Just how many do you think reach 200,000 miles. Not very many. 500,000 miles? So few as in not's not worth considering. The chassis, body and driveline are done by 300,000.
I can drop in an entire new gas longblock from intake manifold, injectors to oil pan. For the price of just a high pressure common rail injector job on an emissions diesel.
Work? It's a light truck application, that isn't work. In fact the gassers now make more power than your beloved 3rd gen Cummins .
So do you drag race your truck and trailer full of cattle?

You got it.
