Go out in the storm or wait till its over

When I plowed I would try not to let more than a foot get on the ground, even that much could be a challenge with the limited number of places to put snow but now I have the blower, I'll wait it out as long as it doesn't look like it'll break the 2 foot mark.

I suppose it's a matter of opinion. To me, a rookie mistake is wasting time and fuel plowing snow when you KNOW you'll have to do it again.

Uh huh. I was thinking the same thing while sitting on the Garden State Parkway 3 days after the big end-of-December storm while snow removal crews worked on the stuff with backhoes and loaders like they were in a gravel pit. Snow removal crews looked like a bunch of Keystone cops. Here in NH, where the plows start rolling when there is 2" on the ground, the roads were clear and dry the next morning by 8:00am.

Well the snow is finally over. I dont know exactly how much we got. The wind had gusts up to 67mph. I plowed my drive twice last night. I didn't touch the neighbors. I went out this morning and had about a foot back on mine. It plowed fairly easy. When I went to do the neighbors with 2'+ I had a verry hard time. With the blade angled it just wanted to push the tractor sideways. From my experience today I will keep going out in the storm to do it in layers.

We usually don't get the big hits that you guy's have been getting, but I generally wait. I am lucky in that I have a rear mount blower & front end loader mounted. Also the wife and I are both retired so I really don't need to get in a hurry. I can wait till the weather smartens up and the job is fun.

I waited until it was 10-12" before I went out . Played around moving and pushing snow banks back to make room for the rest of the clean up tomorrow.

I spent about 2 hours on it last night, but the wind (and street crews) drifted us back in. So, about another hour cleaning up this evening.

Cleaned driveway and neighbors this afternoon, about 20" for yesterdays snow and todays. Wind is really howling tonight and the snow is drifting all over the place. Looks like I'll have to go out tomorrow and re-do everything once again. Checking in from Galway, N.Y.

What size tractor is everyone using that makes it necessary to plow several times during a storm? We had 2' + snowfalls here last year and I was able to use the FEL on my 790 to clear the snow with no problems. The 790 did give the clutch leg a workout, so it has been sold and replaced with the 3320 with the Power Reverser (not replaced just for the snowstorm). So far this year our largest snowfall has only been 6", I guess buying the 3320 was an insurance package that we won't be getting the large snows this year!
