Goats

I just re-read your post. You will not get rid of kudzu in one year with goats. Can the area be cut with a finish mower? Have you considered chemicals? There are several that will kill the kudzu in one or two treatments as long as there are no tree roots in the treated area. I think the best was Tordon. Your county forester should able to help you eradicate the kudzu.

Thanks for the reply, Panache. I'm in NW Alabama (Fayette Co.). I didn't expect to eradicate the kudzu with goats. Just to knock it back little by little over the course of a few years. If you could find the right balance of herd size versus acres of kudzu, it seems that it would be (almost) ideal pasture for raising goats.
