I don't accept deposits for stuff I've sold on CL. The only time I'll do a deposit is if I want to buy something from a dealer...never a private seller. With a dealer, you get some documentation and have recourse. Private sellers can accept the deposit and still sell the item. Then you have to go through a real hassle if the seller doesn't want to give the deposit back. Granted, most sellers (I hope) would have a degree of integrity...

Roy I can understand your point but in my dealings with people and tractors I have had good success with handshake deals. An offer to leave a small deposit whether taken or not usually separates the tire kickers from serious buyers. Both the seller and buyer need to feel confident in the fact that the sale will go through.

When the buyer says he has to check with the wife and bank and a few days pass and someone else shows up with the cash the seller needs to complete the deal in front of him.

If I am going to travel to look at something to buy I generally will bring the truck and trailer needed to haul it and have the money on hand to complete the deal. If it were something I was financing and needed to talk to a banker I would make the trip during bankers hours.

If I feel that I can't trust any one including a private seller with a couple hundred bucks then the world has really gone to crap. If I size the seller up and don't feel good about it I am going to pass on the purchase regardless.

Hi guys, so have been looking hard for a tractor, but am now debating if a smaller one will do what I need it too. I would appreciate some advice on this.

14 acres with 10 acres wooded- the rest will be lawn or tall grass that is hilly.

I need a tractor for:
-Box blade driveway
-Tow some logs
-Limb and branch removal
--Brush hog 2 acres
--Till a garden
--Snow removal
--Prep new lawn for seeding - We are currently building a house and will use the tractor to prep the soil for new seeding.

I found two tractors I like and are priced right, but I don't want to spend a lot of money.

2012 JD 3320 with factory cab and 300cx loader and rear snow blower -350 hrs-$26500
2012 JD 4320 with factory cab and 400cx loader and pallet forks and box blade -115hrs for 33,500

I have a bad back and know they would both be a rough ride, but would the 4320 ride nicer. The 3320 has an air ride seat, but the 4320 does not. The 3 series just seem so small, but I understand that they can do more than I think they can.

I went back and forth a couple years ago between a 3520 vs a 4120. Either one is a good choice. The 4000 series I found are a little more stable and the lift capacity of the loader is quite higher. The 3000 series are a little more nimble.

If it were me I would go with the 4320, but make sure it has the adjustable rear wheel. If not you might have to get wheel spacers.

I have a 4520 cab and it rides pretty good without an air seat. I am sure an air seat would be better though.

What I recommend is that a good first project would be to smooth everything out that you can. A disc or tiller to break up the ground and a land plane grader blade following up will really smooth things out. This would make it much easier on your back.

I should add that using a tiller at lower speeds would be better than a disc for someone with back problems.

I'd go with the 4000 series and never look back. I had a 3320 which was great tractor but the 110 I have now is so much more useful for the bulk of my applications. The 4000 is alot more stable as others have mentioned.

I have 19 acres, half woods to harvest firewood and half finish mower lawn. I used my 3720 on my previous 4 acre place for digging and felling good sized 50' trees and making lawn. I still have the 3720 and it works great for all around tasks.

I also was at a crossroads when deciding between a 3720 and a 4720. The money difference is substantial but workable. One reason I grabbed the 3720 is I like the Yanmar motors over the 4 cylinder. It just seemed to run nice and smooth comparatively. The 3720 is nimble enough to get in and out of smaller places, but is still kind of big for some application like getting into horse stalls, etc.

The 3720 has an air ride seat which is great. If I had a bad back I am not sure a rear snowblower would be a plus.

Right now if I had the same decision, knowing then what I know now, it would again be a tough decision but would still be a 3720. I only use half the potential for it already.

But if they were only 2k apart it might be different. I would get the bigger tractor, just because.

I have had an open station 3320 ( great machine) and now a 4520 Cab ( fantastic machine). If you can swing it, the 4000 is much more tractor. It will feel much more stable on the hills unless you put 4" spacers on the 3000, which is what I did. Either seat is fine and while I have the air ride on the 4520, the spring seat I had on the 3320 is just fine. I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor. I definitely appreciate the higher loader capacity of the 400cx loader. I use it all the time to unload and move heavy objects, pallets, logs etc....

I appreciate the input guys. After looking at the 4320 vs the 3320, I really prefer the 4320. The major hang-up is cost and my health.

I was wondering if anyone else here has a bad low back who drives a tractor. I have a couple bulged discs and a loose right sacroiliac joint, which causes most of my symptoms. Most of my pain is in my pelvis right leg and foot. Because of this, my time sitting is shortened. I guess I would feel better about the purchase knowing others are in a similar situation. Some may say that I should avoid a tractor altogether, but I am already limited to what I can do now, and I feel this would help me establish a sense of freedom.

There is a lot more room on the 4000 series which makes it easier to get on as well.
