That wasnt my diagram bu it is similar, mine has the switch but doesnt have a stator plate that I know off, do I need one? what is and what does it do.

Ok so now I'm bored with this!!!!

Just put on a true 12v coil removed the external resistor, tried for spark at plug nothing, took of the ht lead off distributor hooked a wire to battery and touched negative on coil no spark at ht!!

Another coil gone?? it was a little hot.

What's wrong with this thing!!

Operator error?

power from bat to coil primary.. from other side of coil primary to points. points open anc close making ground contact. condensor is across points.

points must open and close, and condensor must not be shorted.

that's all there is to it.

I replaced switch, now and have 12.11v at coil + terminal, and a spark at HT grounded, nothing at plug, checking the points tomorrow

If you have spark at the secondary wire coming out of the coil.. but nothing at the plugs.. then look at the only 2 other items inbetween the secondary wire and the plugs.. IE.. the cap and rotor.. carbon arcing will cause the spark to run the inside of the cap to ground, and a cracked rotor can cause a short to ground.

Distributor cap looks brand new, no scaring even on it all, rotor arm again looks brand new as does the points. Points open and close when I turn engine manualy. Gap is at .25. Copper strip is intact.

Do you think the coil is working, the spark isnt too impressive when I tried it to ground.

if you have .25 gap.. that's a huge problem.

should be .025

if you have weak spark at the high tension wire, then clean the points, and then run a jump wire from bat to coil primary and recheck. might have dirty contacts in the wire harness to/from the switch.
