you can have voltage there.. but little current flow, if there is a bad connection inthe harness or the switch.. remember.. static voltage with no current flow doesn't require a good connection... once current flows, then resistance comes into play.. and then voltage drops... no resistance and voltage drop with no current flow. ( ohms law! )

Ok got to work on the jube today.

I have 12 volts to the coil positive, I put a light bulb circuit from the negative off the coil, turned her by hand, nothing on the light, cranked her nothing on the light.

Took off the lead from coil negative to distributor, light went on.
Replaced points and condensor, no change!!

So there's a short somewhere in the distributor right?

The screw where the leads hook up from the condensor, the copper foil and the coil negative shouild their be a plastic spacer in there?

Thanks for your help

a likely short is the feedthru bushing where the outgoing primary wire feeds intot he side of the distrib, where it then travels by copper strip over to the points.. etc.

hook power to the lamp, then lamp to the distrib... manually open and close points.. lamp should blink.. if not.. start looking at common points after lamp.. before points.. like that feedthru..

Thanks again Soundguy,

Ill take a look tommorow. So battery to lamp to distributor ( where coil attaches to it (should I remove the coil lead?) I checked for a short on the screw that holds the copper, condensor lead and point lead nothing seemed to be grounding.

The plastic washer on the feedthru brushing is in good conition.

remove the coil out of circuit.

Found the short:)
The through rod on the distributor has a rectangular head and was grounding on the body, thanks for the input!

I now have 12 volts through to the points, points spark with screw driver but I have nothing to the plugs!!!!!! AAAARG what now?

Rotor is new and turns, dist cap is new also, all leads are tight.

Thanks again

Make sure your cap is seating all the way down. There is a slot that has to be aligned to allow the cap to completely seat. If not, you won't get a spark.

...now back to Soundguy. He's been doing a great job of leading you through this, and this is the first I've thought I could add without being redundant.

Many thanks for the input, it does appear to be well seated although it does twist 1/2 inch or so in it's seat .

Ok.. power to the points, and if correct, when points are closed.. no volt reading on that side o fthe coil.. if you still get a volt reading.. then the points aren't closing.

a test lamp frm battery to feedthru on the distrib should now blink as you roll the engine over.... if it stays on, still got a short.. if no lamp.. not getting ground... it's uncommon.. but a condensor can short and short the points..

make sure the little flat spring on the rotor is bent up to touch the contact ont he underside of the cap.. also make sure the lil clip under the rotor, ont he distrib shaft is there.. if not.. it's a 7$ CNH item... without it, the rotor will be loosey goosey ont he distrib shaft.

a double layer of masking tape wil make a temp tight fit for testing if your clip is gone... also..the distrib cap should not be able to rotate once the clamps are on... this would technically change your timing.. and if it really moves 1/2 inch. that's ALOT!

got the dustcap on there?.. some caps seem to need it more than others.

Yes 12v to points when open. 15 when closed.

I just blew my test lamp,
You want me to run battery to + lamp + lamp to distributor?

I was running with a ground to chasis also, stayed on when open sparked at through terminal when closed.

I just turned her over with distributor cap off sparked nicely when open from the points.

Rotor spring is bent up and clip is there, dust cap also there.

Dont know if this helps but the breaker plate beneath the points/ condensor shows 12v open and .15 when closed. Is this not the groundidng plate?
