Goldenrod 496 fuel water filter no good in the cold?

I really do not think I am gelling. I think it is a filter issue. I have never gelled before when colder. The difference is a new filter is now thrown in the mix so I thought I would ask if anyone has the same results with this filter. I have run to 25 below with no issues before but no pre filter. I ran the fuel for 3 hours yesterday through the filter and then cut it open and drained it. It did not catch any water. I am wondering if there is a better water filter for in the cold or just leave it off. With one filter on there for almost a year it never caught anything so I think it is a waste. I just was wondering if anyone else had these same results.

The Goldenrod cartridge filters are 10u for the particulate type, and 17u for the water blocking one.
Maybe run one of their steel mesh strainers at 40u.
That said, the filter clogging is only the symptom... The cloud point fuel is the problem.

Was having the same issue a few years back while using this filter. I have a 300 gallon overhead tank that had always flowed regardless of temp. And out of the blue it went down to a trinkle and the only way I could get fuel in my tractor was to drain fuel into a 5 gallon can and then pour it into the tractor. Come to find out it was because I had replaced the fuel cap on top of the tank not realizing that going from a pressure holding cap to a vented pressure release cap would cause issues.

The Goldenrod water absorption filter adsorbs the waster into the polymer of the element, it does not collect in the bottom of the bowl.
If the filter was restricting flow and a close visual examination didn't find paraffin (wax) particles it had absorbed all the moisture it could handle.

Even when nothing ever went through it? Put in a new one and nothing came out. I know it does not collect in the bottom. I have cut a few of these open and never found anything in them.

I appreciate everyones input. I am thinking getting some straight Kerosene mixed in. I chatted with a friend of mine this morning that froze up during this last cold spell and he cuts his with kerosene and additive. He has never gelled before. Maybe we have a fuel issue as same supplier. Going to check with others in the area. Thanks again everyone.

Never have an issue with my 500 gallon bulk tank which is outside next to the shop and it gets real cold here. No Golden whatever filter on it, just the pump and nozzle but it gets Powerservice additive with every fill. Don't need no stinking filter on the bulk tank as my tractors as well as my diesel truck have Parker Hannifin spin on water-crud filters on them with clear bottom bowls so I can see what they collect.

I find it much easier to change the filters on my bulk tank rather then the tractor filters and less expensive.

I rarely change them because anything they collect (water or crud) drops into the clear bottom bowls and the bowls have a built in drain on them so I just open the drain and out comes whatever. The spin on filter elements are 5 micron pass btw. Additionally, the bowls are heated if I turn them on, which I rarely do. Same setup big diesel powered ships use and tractor trailers. In my case they are sized to the application.

Sounds like it is doing its job. Water freezes at 32 degrees.

Me too. It also give me a fuel quality indication in the clear bowl prior to it being to late and in my tractors tank.

This fuel gelling issue in the bulk thank filter is just about the only negative issue of having an extra filter on the bulk tank.

I have a goldenrod water absorber filter on mine but dont see 0*f enough to tell you if I have had a issue. Generaly il fill up my tractor in late fall, treat it again and only need to fuel it up 1x in the winter. I dont let it get blow 1/2 tank.
