Hi all

Has anyone set up golf holes on their property. I was thinking my yard might have enough room for 4 greens; 2 heading south and 2 heading north. I'm not a golfer, but if I had a place to play in back yard, I might try the game. Also, It might enhance the sale of my property if I want to sell. A private practicing space all my own.

Probably a bad idea. Anyone have any comments or ideas?

Cheers....Coffeeman

There is quite a bit of work involved in making a green.

Check out how this guy built a golf hole on his property.

Maybe not a bad idea; however, I think very few people realize the cost, in both time and money, to construct and maintain a golf course of any size.

Hi Bird

You got that right. My problem is; I know the cost. I'm in the middle of a landscape makeover. Trees, flagstone, fountain, new entrance to house and new way to drive up to house. Seems to me landscaping is landscaping, even a golf hole or two. I think construction is expensive, but it's the easy part. Maintaining is the killer. One has to work at it month after month and year after year.

Well, I'd say you know more about it that most. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I used to have a neighbor who built golf courses. Like you said, that maintenance is the killer.

I installed a green and sandtrap on my property. I used an artificial green made of polypropolene. www.allprogreens.com/
It is not astro turf or nylon. To hold a golf shot it is a longer turf and is filled with slag or sand to hold the "grass" up. Mine was set up for 90 yards and shorter. I put 3 golf holes in it and I just hit from tees at 25 to 90 yards. It alows practicing where the most strokes occur in the game of golf.
I did a lot of research and the reason I went with this is less maintenance. Less cost of equipment like special mowers etc. These things need to be mowed daily. No chemicals, aereation, etc. Install it and use it. A little maintenance and clean up now and then. Usually a broom. Oh, by the way, I installed it with my Kubota BX22. It's been in for about 3 years and is working fine.
