Gonna get me a stump grinder for my BCS

/ Gonna get me a stump grinder for my BCS #11
Hello farmerboybill and all

You say the Caravaggi stump grinder is power-hungry
and that the revs drop way down if you try too big a bite.

I have a BCS-740 (European PowerSafe equivalent - more or less - of the 853)
but with a Honda GX390 (11 HP) petrol engine.

Do you think my machine could cope with this implement ?

Best regards from Ray

Hi RussellRay
You will be fine. Earth Tools has a video running that stump grinder on Grillo tractor with Honda GX390 engine. (Grillo G11 walk-behind tractor with stump grinder implement - YouTube). Current model Kohler diesels have less HP and less torque at full throttle than the Honda GX390. Still, I prefer the diesel. Regardless, here is a video of us running stump grinder on 853 with Lombardini 15LD400 engine. It had no problems with these stumps. (BCS Walk-Behind Tractor with Stump Grinder - YouTube).

When do we get to see a vid of it grinding a stump? All I saw is, a wheel/tire going back and forth! lol

Yes, you can run the Stump grinder on a GX390 equipped tractor, but you're going to have to go slow, depending on how big the stump you have and the hardness of the stump. I went pretty slow on the pine stumps in the video, but I would have gone much slower in oak or hickory stumps. I don't know if I'd recommend one to a customer or not. Stump grinders are very occasional use attachments. If you were doing major yard renovations over a summer and had a dozen or so to do over the course of the summer, it'd probably pay for itself. If you have two stumps to do right now, but none to do in the forseeable future, you might be better off renting a unit from a store. If you have many stumps to do in a very short time, you may be better off hiring a commercial company with a Vermeer grinder. Same advice I'd give to someone considering a chipper...

Sorry for the poor quality of the video. I shot it on my dumb phone's 2.0mp camera, because I've never felt the need to buy a good quality camera.

Sawyer Rob, check out the links above your last post. You can see the work being done. Good implement. I sell a few here and there.
