No sir i was bored and just started this one.
I hired a guy to do some mowing for me (I do pasture mowing on the side). I just contracted a 380 ac job and needed to get started. He loaded up my cx100 cab tractor and went to the job, he called me and said the door just flew off going down the road. Found out he didnt shut the door all the way and the wind blew it off and he just laughed about it saying "boy i just have bad luck". So i let him keep going and later he called me saying the tractor is HOT and smoking. Blew a radiator hose and he just kept on mowing. Let him go after that. Hired an older man after that and had to use my MF285 till the case was fixed. Second day on the job he called and said " your pto lever just fell off". After looking at it found out he was trying to force it and broke the internal lever and the housing. Now im just doing it myself. Try to b a nice guy and this is where it gets me. The door $2000 and the lever another $500.

Tried to give 3 high school young men some work. One liked to ride in the truck, one decided he did not like helping me, the third one was backing tractor out of barn and hit the side of door frame with FEL. When I reminded him that I said to go slow and be careful on tractor....... get ready......he stated that I did not tell him to watch where he was going. I do most of my work myself now.

It takes work to find good workers. Most of the ones readily available are available for a reason.

Did you put your head down and walk away?

Having tried to find good mechanical help over the years I feel your pain. I would put an ad in the paper and get 20 responses, I swear only 3 of them read the ad, and only 1 of those would be close to qualified. I would hire that one, either they couldn't show up, couldn't show up on time, wanted time off on a regular basis, or didn't have the skills they said they did on their resume.

The best young employees I ever hired were both Eagle Scouts. Ever since I have recommended going to the local scout group to look for help. You don't typically become an Eagle Scout if you lack discipline or the ability to work.

He was an Eagle Scout. Think he started running with a different group in his Senior year at school. Rolled two trucks after I quit working him and then had a major fall out with his Dad.

My biggest competition is the US Government.

I offered several people jobs and they said NOPE, they would rather collect free money from the Government than work for it. YA ME TOO, but if we all took that attitude we would become cave men all over again.

They all figure the difference between working for a pay check and doing nothing is not worth it.

I take technical questions on forklifts for the forklift dealership I work for. Young, old, doesn't matter. Just took a call today from a 45 year old guy that has been a mechanic for years. He couldn't find a working back-up alarm on a forklift.
Me.....Ummm, follow the beeping.
Him....I can't find it.
Me.....Follow the beeping
Him....I am

He has been looking for the alarm for over 2 hours and as far as I know may still be looking for it.
Idiocy doesn't discriminate based on age.
