Good morning TBN!!

40 this morning. Supposed to be 70 this afternoon accompanied by 4-5 hours of rain.
FEMA is supposed to be here at 11 AM!! Yeah!! We'll see how that goes. Wished it had rained yesterday so he could see exactly what we deal with.
Didn't get in to much yesterday. And looks like today may be the same.
Time for a second cup.

Everyone have a great and safe day!!

I have been stumped by my truck's oil life gauge.
It has disappeared. When I first saw truck it was at 40 percent so they hadn't even changed the oil.
It doesn't look dirty, and level is full, but I can't get the dash gauge to show up.
I've pressed the directional arrows every which way and run through all the options and it shows running hours and
idling hours, and underneath there is supposed to be a line for oil life. Not any more.
There is a cure for this, as always...find someone younger. Might let my 14 yo nephew's son play with it.
I looked up youtube videos but they didn't help. Part of learning curve.
I'd rather have a dozen analog gauges across the dash. Or digital.
a pox on menus, give me a gauge

and switches, give me nice switches with a satisfying feel
instead of one more finger print on a smudged up surface

Drew it is in a sub menu Ram is same way for lots of things. The radio controls heat air seats etc. if it goes out you are screwed.

Mostly polar vortex is always around just can be in different parts of the world. It became a media darling word.

Rain gauge stuck so not sure how much 43 degrees raining now fire contained and going out.

Prayers for all our Country

Yeah...the trucks we have are overly complicated on menus. And control buttons are all over the place. Pretty soon I imagine some sort of certification course will be needed to operate.

I do like the heads up display on the windshield though. And the control buttons for the sound system on the steering wheel.

Our oil life on the Chevy and GMC is right under the first info menu. Once there scrolling down on the steering wheel scroll control drops through the info menu. Clicking an arrow control takes you to another menu choice. It would be nice if the process is duplicated on the info-tainment system screens.

Morning all, 37 to 47 and rain.
Walkway was a sheet of ice this morning, almost went for a slide, put down some salt until it melts later.

Found out why we could not call my dad, GF hadn't paid the electric bill in 10 months.
She thought the 2 bills were duplicates when one was for gas and one for electric, or so she says.
She had no idea she has power of attorney and did not remember they have a lawyer and who she is, even though I ask her to call the lawyer every week and remind her.

Drew - some gauges only show up after engine is at temp. Have quite a few like that on wife's car, especially if it was reset recently.

Still fighting this cold, son and I are towards end, wife is still suffering.

Be well,

Good Morning,
Ct , 28 to start going to 40 with overcast and on and off light rain showers !

After work yesterday I ran down to HD and picked up a gallon of flat latex white ceiling/ primer and will try and finish the cellar way to the basement, if I get ambitious! 😉

Not sure what I will get into today, maybe some breakfast and then decide !

Drew, I’m not sure it matters, but I think you need to be in park with engine idling to get to the oil life indicator ! Here is what my 2017 F150 shows in park with engine idling !

Hope all have a Good Friday! 🙏

Scott, thanks, have same dash, only get two out of three
will try again, idling in park.

have a question on brake pads.
Bendix ceramic for 68 bucks all around
Akebono ACT ceramics for 130 all around
I'm figuring I have to take each wheel off to fix the rash, so why not change the brake pads while in there.
should I spend more on the Akebono?
Always thought Bendix a pretty good name brand ??

I don't sense any brake shudder so think rotors are ok

Good Morning!!!! 43F @ 7:15AM. Periods of rain. High 51F. Winds SE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall near a half an inch. Locally heavy rainfall possible.
Still dry outside, but the front is just to the west and will be here soon.

There's an even simpler solution to the oil readout issue, Drew. Change the oil and filter so you have a known baseline, then change them again every 5000 miles, or after a year, whichever comes sooner. That extended oil life BS only started when manufacturers began offering free maintenance with the original purchase of the vehicle. Sure, that works fine for the life of the vehicle, which they all say is the length of the warranty. How long is that? 36.000 miles? 50,000 miles? Maybe even 100,000 miles? I have one motorcycle at a bit over 160,000 miles, and the F250 is close to 200,000. I don't consider either one to be at end of life, and 5,000 mile oil changes are part of the reason they made it that far.

Buyer for the shipping container showed up with the moving truck, and the first thing the driver did was get his rig stuck on a down hill slope covered with wet grass. This despite me warning him not to try it. Tractor just spun the wheels trying to get him back up the same way, but after he moved to a less sloped area and we added another length of chain to get the tractor better traction, he got out. We then used the tractor to spin the container to one side so he could line up on the other end. And he made it back up the driveway without any other issues. But the buyer was paying $200/hour to watch the goat rope.

Used the box blade to smooth out the ruts in the gravel pad where the container had been. Moved the loaded firewood pallets into the garage so they'll stay dry, loaded the trailer with a bunch of concrete blocks and some other building materials so I wouldn't have to load them after they'd been soaking in the rain for a week. Finished the day burning wood scraps in the campfire ring.

Today looks like a run into town for groceries and a visit with the Ford dealer for truck batteries. Not sure what else will pop up.

TGIF gang!

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. You have nothing to gain. Now if it needs brakes, that’s another story.

The rear brakes on my RAM 1500 were getting thin this past summer, I replaced the pads and rotors with this setup.
Power Stop K8184 Power Stop Z23 Evolution Sport Brake Upgrade Kits | Summit Racing

If you need or desire them they have numerous sets for an Expedition;
2018 FORD EXPEDITION Power Stop K8026-36 Power Stop Z36 Truck and Tow Brake Upgrade Kits | Summit Racing

I have not had the best of luck just changing pads unless I also cleaned up the rotors, most shops will not turn rotors these days as they will not make the minimum recommended thickness when turned. I have removed the ridge with a grinder several times. Often times the wear/rust ridge on the outer edge of the rotor will create brake issues when replacing the pads, noise vibration and pedal pulsing, remove the ridge and the issue is gone.

69°F and .84 inches rain. Looks like our storm is finally here but we aren’t seeing the effects like on Maui.

Guys lost H&F. My soup came out delicious (as expected)

Definitely a hunker down kind of day.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

replaced the front brakes on the van with ceramic Brembo pads and rotors. Low noise, low dust and slightly better bite than Akebono. Also replaced the vacuum pump that made the brake performance more powerful with less effort

Good Morning Drew,
I have done what Lou mentioned, cleaning up the rotors and knocking that bead of rust off of the periphery of the rotor ! If I was going to do the front brakes tomorrow I would probably buy the top of the line rotor replacements ! Less chance of warping if they get hot !

Also on my oil changes, I do the faithfully at 5000 miles , but I also do reset the oil life indicator for what it’s worth !

Just my 2 cents ! 😉

And even with the fancy electronics, I still date label the windshield on the trucks, and date label the filters on the equipment. LOL. Just old fashioned...or old.. I guess.

Phil, that sounds exasperating, sorry.

took some time to write note to my friend's wife about his wheelchair use for these doc visits.
He can't drive so he always has a driver.
He has been insisting on taking his very heavy motorized wheel chair and it's a real beast for me to pick up and put
in back of suv. Particularly when I saw the tall lift over on the Expedition.

So i suggested they consider using his lighter weight non motorized chair for these doc visits.
everyone is headed for the same door, and his wife just got a new knee. She shouldn't be picking that thing up either.
plus using the manual chair would give him some needed arm exercise.
I think he has become addicted to his joy stick. I can pick the chair up, have done it many times, but looking to future, this
makes no sense. Wife has to put chair in back of new Cadillac Lyriq. Wait til she scratches that...
People need to be flexible
Back when Sophie was confined to her wheelchair, she actually had 3, motorized, a high back, and a lightweight. So much easier to maneuver the light weight for car trips. Often I’d let the trip determine which I'd load. Sometimes just easier to push than load. She couldn’t push self for quite a spell.

I wrote down the different vehicle oil capacities, plug wrench sizes on the box where I keep the funnels. I also take picture of the mileage at each change, and a picture of me putting oil in. THat reminds me, I need to do the mazda already, but don't have a filter.
Just ordered 2 for mazda and 1 for the pilot.

I set it for 5K miles, but don't sweat going up to 8K. Used to do 10K when driving all the time for work.

Good breakfast this morning.
44 deg and overcast, dreary rainy day (.08")

did 14 miles on the exercise bike today, usually do 10.
