Good morning!!!!

Perhaps you might want to clarify what exactly it is you are meaning (or looking at) when you use those words ?

In the meantime, I'll leave you with this scenario:

Leaving aside generation of methane via decomposition of biological resources, fossil NG is, for all practical purposes, a finite resource.

Why not then take advantage of wind energy (when present and available) to reduce consumption (aka "conservation") of that finite resource ?

You know I have heard that all my life.
Yet they keep finding more and more deposits continually.
If a person listened to all the doomsday forecaster we were to have run out of petroleum products decades ago.
The so-called green energy sources are nice feel good sources that unfortunately have limited use without adequate storage and peaking ability.
Clean abundant nuclear is the energy source that should be pursued and it should be in mid sized generation facilities in close proximity to the usage area.

On a different note seeing as how it's afternoon to me,
Afternoon all,
Hope everyone is having a good day and staying or getting healthy.
Got my first covid shot this morning, wasn't too bad in and out inless then an hour which for the VA is blindingly fast.
Starting to shop around for a new pickup dang the prices and the sales tactics,
have to get a bit short with some of them. I've ended up building a truck on line and just dropping the list on the salemans lap
saying this is what I want get me a price.
You all enjoy the sun is shinning up here today and it's up to 38F I'll go scrape the snow we got yesterday in an hour or two.

Vaccinations here in Lancaster county have not been a model of efficiency. I have no idea how you get an appointment. The newspaper reports 54,000 shots given. It will be a long time before they vaccinate everyone who wants a shot. I keep wondering where they are going to get the vaccine for the 6000 shots a day that they hope to give in March and April. Still I hope the experts who say this will all be over by late spring are right.

An uneventful trip to Burks Falls and back. The vampire took 14 vials of blood out of my anemic DIL. No bloody wonder she is anemic, 14 vials. She is restricted to 1.5 Litres of liquid/day intake (about a quart and a half give or take a little).

The furnace oil truck came while we were out...$699.84. $1.17/L converted to US gallons =$4.439988/US Gallon. Not cheap.

Pennwalk, don't hold your breath on that score.

I have lifting eyes in the ceiling of the garage. Very handy. The one I use the most has a chain hoist hooked on it. There is a strongback in the crawl space above the garage to spread the load. I wouldn't want to lift tons but 5-6-7 hundred pounds have been no problem.

Chris

I have several of those in the garage ceiling, too. But I also had what could have been a serious accident using one of them. Unlike your strongback, I just used the kind with a wood thread, and drilled an appropriate sized hole in the rafter. It was a big one, maybe 3/8" bar, but when I was laying down the steel I-beam frame for a 20 ton press using a come along, the screw eye popped out of the hole and down she came. I'd placed a plastic milk crate under where it would fall, just in case, and made sure that the ladder I was standing on would be clear, too. But it was startling, and made a heck of a noise, too.

Radio waves won't pass through metal, and they are heavily attenuated by masonry and drywall, too. Stucco is bad as well, as it has a chicken wire mesh inside that won't let the waves pass, and that's what I've been dealing with here. The good news is you can just add more APs inside, but that means running more Ethernet cable.

Part of the frustration ☹️
Here is a diagram of the situation:
IMG_0444.JPG

My interior APs (1st gen Eeros) are excellent. Not only inside but some outside coverage and via 2 wireless hops get me to Tractorshed for my Outback, albeit a weak signal. I had previously accomplished same with Airports, but better performance with Eero. Too bad they aren’t exterior rated or support external antenna.

My Pico Station was my initial attempt for external coverage, but my research seemed to indicate the Unifis would be better coverage than Picos in AP Repeater mode. Not so far.

Sitting in same Living Room spot I can’t connect to the mounted, wired, Unifis, I can connect wirelessly to my Mobley, GL-AR300, , Mofi, & PicoStation, again weakly even though in Office building.

I have 3 goals:
1 - Get a strong signal to Caretaker / Tractorshed that would support a separate LAN at Caretaker and stronger signal for Outback Mate. Had I been smart enough when I built the house I would have run ethernet to garage and tractorshed or at least extra conduit. No easy way to do so now, too much concrete between buildings ☹️

2 - Get a better external signal within property boundaries, especially deadspots where AP on tractor would mesh in.

3 - Reestablish a solid wireless connection to cottage for future, especially when Starlink is my primary.

Drew, I think I see a truck in your near future. 🤙

Quick fix...fit crack back where it belong, holes ready there just need piece 3/16" or 1/4" flat stock wider than drill holes same height fame, back side thick washers and tighten nut real good...had Craftman did the same as yours.

Thomas, that is what I have in mind. Just haven’t found the right plate yet (assuming I have something tucked away somewhere)
I do have to be mindful of being able to remount the transmission guard.

Good afternoon all.

30 here this morning. 49 now with the high temperature supposed to be 50. It’s sunny and pleasant out. Easy stuff this morning- pail of ashes removed from stove and a 3 day supply of wood brought into the house.

I went and donated blood at a bloodmobile a town or two west of here. They seem to call every 56 days, but I usually only give 3 or 4 times a year.

Had a nice lunch at a local diner as a reward!

Have a good pre- hump day.

Frank
