Good morning all. The cloud promised by the forecasters yesterday has so far turned out to be a no-show.

Thought I would crack on regardless at filling a couple of holes in window frames. Mixed up some 2 part filler, only to find it had gone solid before I could get it in place. I guess those of you more used to coping with higher temperatures wouldn't make such a stupid and retrospectively obvious mistake. Do you put stuff like that in the fridge before using, or just wait till summer is over ?

I never drove my brother's Z06, the 650hp one,

650hp ! I can see a combine working in a neighbour's field that will be a similar power. Wouldn't be surprised if your brother's car kicked up almost as much dust. :)

Good Morning.
It’s 62 with a high of 80 forecast for today with clear skies.
The kind of day that makes you want to find outside chores.

Yesterday’s easy day was going fine until we had a passenger with a medical emergency, possibly a stroke. I got home at 6pm, which was bout 5 hours later than I originally thought. I’m waiting to hear on the condition of the passenger, no word as of last night.

Today I’ve got to get ready for an actual live gig tomorrow. First time we will play in front of people in well over a year, so I’ve got to pull out a lot of “stuff” and check it out, so it goes smoothly tomorrow. It’s not as much fun being a roadie as being a musician!

Funny thing about performance cars, I’ve built many over the years, bought a few as well, but I have driven a Prius for the last 15 years. The first one went 275,000 miles over the 12 years that I owned it. But I don’t miss the performance cars at all. I’d rather have a good sound system and climate control. But driving my friends Tesla performance model in ludicrous mode did make me giggle. Pretty sure it was the fastest acceleration I’ve ever experienced in a car. No tire smoke or squeal, just crazy, neck snapping acceleration.

good morning all
nice sunny summer day here, highs in mid to upper 80's.
My day had been planned to help my aging MIL do change of address work before she
goes into retirement home, but they cancelled last night, so looks like I have a nice day to myself.
Going to mow the lawn and then clean and grease the mower.

Toppop, what kind of rv did you get?

It’s a Coachman Mirada 32, it’s a few years old with 12,000 miles. It was about $80,000 cheaper than a new one, which was well beyond my budget for a play toy that sits in the driveway 90% of the time. We wanted one in excellent condition that we could pay cash for. Bought it from an 85 year old who started it weekly and had a service guy out monthly to check it over. He hadn’t used but three times the year he bought it, 2016, then his wife died. Outside was a bit dirty but he had it cleaned up for us, nice guy. My biggest qualm was the Ford V10 engine re fuel mileage.

Good Morning!!!! 72F @ 5:15AM. Plentiful sunshine. High near 105F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.
Going to be another hot weekend, with highs staying above the century mark until Monday, when we get a couple days of high 90s, then back above 100F for the rest of the week.

Did the deer eat your lilies, Ron?

Glad the brakes worked well enough to stop you from going too far backwards, Drew. And that your brother still loves you!

Sounds like a nice MH bought right, Randy. Time to get a new Battery Saver 2365 LCD to go with it?

If you're using a body putty like Bondo, Eric, you can put less catalyst in it and it'll give you a little more working time. You can also put it in the refrigerator, but that gets old pretty quickly, especially with the better half.

Fuel tank arrived in one piece yesterday; the seller did a very nice job of packing it. Now I probably have a lifetime supply of packing foam.

I was almost done with my errands in town yesterday when the alert sound started coming over the radio, announcing evacuations for a new fire just south of Paradise. They got it stopped at 15 acres, and used one of the Very Large Air Tankers that were already in the area to stop it. There was another new start just south of Oroville yesterday, too. People are still much too careless with yard equipment and fire.

Horrible news out of the Dixie fire, as it spread farther east and west, triggering mandatory evacuations and warnings for all of the Lake Almanor area to as far east as Quincy, where a new fire they're calling the Fly Fire started just north of town. The Dixie Fire has started to burn south again, crossing back into Butte County. Total acreage has increased to 113,006 acres 18% contained as of last night, but I'm pretty sure that the overnight IR overflights will show it much larger than that this morning. The number of firefighters has mushroomed to over 4,000, but they're gonna need many more to make even a dent in this monster. Here's what the smoke, some 40 miles away, looked like when I stopped for meal worms last night:
Dixie2021-07-22.jpg

Dixie on the left, Fly on the right. They'll probably merge before the end of the day today.

As I was about to pass my bodyman neighbor's driveway yesterday, a water tanker came out of the driveway spraying water. I followed it down the road a bit until it turned into a new neighbors driveway, and gave a couple toots to get the driver to stop. It was my new neighbor, who I'd only met once very briefly a few months ago. Long story short, he'd be more than happy to truck water to the new tank when I'm ready.

Got word yesterday that the wire I ordered has shipped. Might be here tomorrow, if not, then Monday for sure. Now that the inspection is done, I can cut the fittings for the test gauges off and plumb the lines for the new tanks into the existing water system. Once that's done, I can start filling the upper tank. Might be a pretty good idea after seeing those smoke clouds last night, and reading all the new evacuation notices this morning.

TGIF gang!🍻

RNG,
Does PG&E have their own fire fighting equipment? I was noticing the hose reel in the back of the 1ton in your pic.

70°F and clear-ish skies with fog this morning, going up to 90° today.

No mowing last night. Wife and boy had other designs on my time. May try to sneak some in this evening.

I noticed last night coming back from the barn that our tiger lillies along the wellhouse are in full bloom as well, BEF.

Stay safe out there, RNG.

Congratulations. :D:cool: I am sure some of us can help with suggestion on how to enjoy a couples retirement.
:) Yes, welcome psvfd.

We still have our 2002 Deere Gator HPX 4 x 2. About 5-6 years ago, we sank some labor and money in it, putting new tires, seats, and most importantly, a new ignition black box...$$$ It has the Kawasaki v-twin engine, and has been very dependable, but I have had to pull off the carburetor about every 2 years to clean it. About 2-3 months ago, my son said it wouldn't start and I just haven't directed time to it to get it going....(My FIL has also bought the new gator). So I tried some starting fluid up the intake and it wouldn't kick off. So, at that point, I'm figuring it's the ignition again since there was no hint of either cylinder firing. It has also had a history of the fuel pump going out. Stock ones cost nearly $200 at Deere, and chinese cheapies are about $20-30 online. I've put maybe 4 cheapies on it. So, I'm thinking the spark is out since not even starting fluid could get it to do anything, and I've been worried that it would need another $305 ignition box....Well good news hopefully, I got time to pull out the plugs and it has spark! So, I just need to drain the old fuel, clean the carb, especially the idle jet and needle and seat. Both plugs were black and wet and I could smell the green green gas of home/old. Hopefully some more labor will get 'er going again. I believe we should sell it. It might only have about 500 hours. Still worth a pretty penny. I have told my son he will be helping me....might have to twist his arm a bit. I hate the smell of old gas, we call it green gas because it turns a greenish color. It gets on your hand/fingers and it's hard to wash off the smell.

Randy, hopefully the RV works out well for y'all.

I saw a crazy video of an older guy pumping gas into his car at night. A mini van drives up fast and close, and 3 punks jump out. 1 was coming around towards him, and the other 2 were trying to get into the driver's seat to steal his car. Not sure what the 1 was coming at him for, but the man just started hosing them down with gasoline. It was great that the pump would shoot out fuel at least 10 feet or more....he soaked all 3 and even sprayed some into the van's open side door as they all jumped back in to get out of there. I wonder if any of those punks tried to light up a spleef after that episode???

Eric, we have the "Great Stuff" expanding foam for filling cracks and such. Works as an insulator too. Just make sure you wear throw away plastic gloves if you use it....don't ask me how I know. But if you need something that will last for 100 years, maybe use something like mortar?

Fastest acceleration I believe I've ever been involved in is a tossup. My R1 Yamaha would get up and go, my buddy has 2 bikes that are fun. One is a highly modified late model 2nd gen Yamaha Vmax, and his other has a custom hidden turbo added to a Yamaha FJR 1300 sport tourer. All will make you smile. But maybe the fastest I've ever accelerated from about 100mph - 200mph, was in a turbine engined Rockwell Turbo Commander. My friend told his dad the pilot, "Give it all it has dad!" and he did. It set you in the seat pretty hard....at least it felt fast. I want to say it had over 1500 shaft horsepower and was light loaded on fuel. The constant velocity props (or whatever you call them were working that day). Popgadget could probably explain better, and tell us what planes are faster (besides air craft carrier launches).

Popgadget, I hope you got your patient to medical help ASAP. Did you "firewall" it? Do they even call it "firewalling" in a jet like you fly?

Like Popgadget and many of you, I've had the experience of either riding in, or driving many old hot rods. But I tell my kids that with the crappy tires and suspension most of them had back in the day, I sure wouldn't give ludicrous money for one like they sometimes auction for. Yes, I'd love to have some (at normal prices), but I'd almost prefer a quiet powerful, good suspension ride more nowadays....like a cool CTS-V for a weekend ride....but alas, John Deere gets all my hot rod money (what little there is), and this grass gets a lot of my time.

RNG, prayers you get some weather, and they get a hold on containing those fires. Do you have any water supply stocked up yet? It's sad you have to put up with so much, to enjoy the beauty of your home near the lake. I know you've done A LOT to try and combat/prepare for all the PGE/drought issues.

We've had so much rain, hit or miss in our area, but it looks like an opportunity to cut hay maybe has come. Many, many are cutting today. My friend too, down south of here below Victoria said he was going to lay down about 40 acres worth.

I'm hoping the guy I contacted will come cut our hay.

Hope all of you have a great evening. Roy, hope you get feeling better each day.
