Congratulations.

I am sure some of us can help with suggestion on how to enjoy a couples retirement.

Yes, welcome psvfd.
We still have our 2002 Deere Gator HPX 4 x 2. About 5-6 years ago, we sank some labor and money in it, putting new tires, seats, and most importantly, a new ignition black box...$$$ It has the Kawasaki v-twin engine, and has been very dependable, but I have had to pull off the carburetor about every 2 years to clean it. About 2-3 months ago, my son said it wouldn't start and I just haven't directed time to it to get it going....(My FIL has also bought the new gator). So I tried some starting fluid up the intake and it wouldn't kick off. So, at that point, I'm figuring it's the ignition again since there was no hint of either cylinder firing. It has also had a history of the fuel pump going out. Stock ones cost nearly $200 at Deere, and chinese cheapies are about $20-30 online. I've put maybe 4 cheapies on it. So, I'm thinking the spark is out since not even starting fluid could get it to do anything, and I've been worried that it would need another $305 ignition box....Well good news hopefully, I got time to pull out the plugs and it has spark! So, I just need to drain the old fuel, clean the carb, especially the idle jet and needle and seat. Both plugs were black and wet and I could smell the green green gas of home/old. Hopefully some more labor will get 'er going again. I believe we should sell it. It might only have about 500 hours. Still worth a pretty penny. I have told my son he will be helping me....might have to twist his arm a bit. I hate the smell of old gas, we call it green gas because it turns a greenish color. It gets on your hand/fingers and it's hard to wash off the smell.
Randy, hopefully the RV works out well for y'all.
I saw a crazy video of an older guy pumping gas into his car at night. A mini van drives up fast and close, and 3 punks jump out. 1 was coming around towards him, and the other 2 were trying to get into the driver's seat to steal his car. Not sure what the 1 was coming at him for, but the man just started hosing them down with gasoline. It was great that the pump would shoot out fuel at least 10 feet or more....he soaked all 3 and even sprayed some into the van's open side door as they all jumped back in to get out of there. I wonder if any of those punks tried to light up a spleef after that episode???
Eric, we have the "Great Stuff" expanding foam for filling cracks and such. Works as an insulator too. Just make sure you wear throw away plastic gloves if you use it....don't ask me how I know. But if you need something that will last for 100 years, maybe use something like mortar?
Fastest acceleration I believe I've ever been involved in is a tossup. My R1 Yamaha would get up and go, my buddy has 2 bikes that are fun. One is a highly modified late model 2nd gen Yamaha Vmax, and his other has a custom hidden turbo added to a Yamaha FJR 1300 sport tourer. All will make you smile. But maybe the fastest I've ever accelerated from about 100mph - 200mph, was in a turbine engined Rockwell Turbo Commander. My friend told his dad the pilot, "Give it all it has dad!" and he did. It set you in the seat pretty hard....at least it felt fast. I want to say it had over 1500 shaft horsepower and was light loaded on fuel. The constant velocity props (or whatever you call them were working that day). Popgadget could probably explain better, and tell us what planes are faster (besides air craft carrier launches).
Popgadget, I hope you got your patient to medical help ASAP. Did you "firewall" it? Do they even call it "firewalling" in a jet like you fly?
Like Popgadget and many of you, I've had the experience of either riding in, or driving many old hot rods. But I tell my kids that with the crappy tires and suspension most of them had back in the day, I sure wouldn't give ludicrous money for one like they sometimes auction for. Yes, I'd love to have some (at normal prices), but I'd almost prefer a quiet powerful, good suspension ride more nowadays....like a cool CTS-V for a weekend ride....but alas, John Deere gets all my hot rod money (what little there is), and this grass gets a lot of my time.
RNG, prayers you get some weather, and they get a hold on containing those fires. Do you have any water supply stocked up yet? It's sad you have to put up with so much, to enjoy the beauty of your home near the lake. I know you've done A LOT to try and combat/prepare for all the PGE/drought issues.
We've had so much rain, hit or miss in our area, but it looks like an opportunity to cut hay maybe has come. Many, many are cutting today. My friend too, down south of here below Victoria said he was going to lay down about 40 acres worth.
I'm hoping the guy I contacted will come cut our hay.
Hope all of you have a great evening. Roy, hope you get feeling better each day.
