66°F and light fog this morning, going up to 88° today. The pop-up showers that graced that area yesterday evening left us the usual minor moisture, falling apart just as they reached us. In spite of all the recent stories about disastrous flooding in the STL area, we have remained dry as a bone at our place just 30 miles east of the city.

Leaving work early today to meet with a rep from ADT about our constantly failing home security system. It hasn't worked right for over a year now, we've been through three different techs who thought they had the solution, and we're done playing around with this system that just doesn't work anymore.

That's quite a mud festival story, Randy. Woodstock Down Under '22?

Good morning, gents.

a well worn, but free 12” auger

wonder if that would fit in your drill sharpener...

personal best/worst at dermatologist, 7 freezies but no knives came out. All good.

need to call local dealer and see if they have a rattle can of Gravely red. Most likely have to order online.
Not the same red as modern zero turns.

Good morning! 72˚F, sunny, heading to the mid 90's like yesterday, at least we are staying out of the miserable 100s.

Mud play and loader races, all seems well on the GM thread.

I did some touch up painting on a bathroom wall a year ago and that just made a bigger project because the paint was a tad lighter on the spots. Today I'll repaint the wall and hopefully a nice unnoticeable line at the corner so I won't have to paint the entire bathroom. While I have the paint out I'll paint behind the new water softener.

off to dealer I go for Gravely paint but first I called the Gravely expert in West Va:
they only had the same paint local guy has.
I'd love to trailer this little tractor out to them and let them rebuild the trans and axle bearings.
It's all gear, perhaps straight cut, old design, pretty noisy and whiny. But like my old Farmall A, maybe they are all that way.
But since it's never been apart for bearings, 1986, probably about time. Really need to look on youtube. They made this trans a long time so maybe
someone has taken it apart while videoing. That is such a helpful part of the internet.

66º clear skies again... going to 98º
I plan on working on the tractor sunshade today. My buddy has a piece of 1/8 aluminum 4x5 that should do nicely.

Good Morning!!!! 70F @ 6:15AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 99F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

I found a 1 gallon propane tank on Amazon, Ted, and it's a lot lighter to carry around with the weed burner. I've only had to refill it once in maybe five years, but then I only use it for starting camp fires.

Never throw anything away, right, David?

For a while now I've been using a very fine glass bead media in the blaster. I get it at Brownells, and the call it "#270+ (.0021-.0005") sieve size. The last batch cost me about $70 for a 5 gallon pail, now I see it's over $90. Talk about inflation! Anyway, it'sas fine as baking flour, so even if some somehow got stuck in the dishwasher, it would be very hard to notice, even if it found it's way onto the rim of a glass. But you're right, I don't have to share the DW with anyone...

I've been thinking about lighting up at the cul-de-sac, scaredy, but a battery powered/solar charged LED with enough power to be useful isn't cheap, and I'm afraid someone would steal it, even if they had to bend over the pole upon which it was mounted. I'm already worried about the security cam. Even though there would be a video recording of the theft, getting the sheriff to do anything with the evidence would likely be a problem.

This may sound like sour grapes, Drew, but I can't think of a single new car on sale today that I'd want to drive, let alone buy. And I don't see the situation getting any better in another ten years. Unless, maybe, if they get the unassisted autonomous driving thing figured out, and I've lost enough marbles to have also lost my driver's license.

Had the same problem with my ten year old ADT system, Paul. I've been happy with the Abode system, and the monthly monitoring fee is less than half what ADT was charging.

The wait wasn't as long as I'd expected at the DMV yesterday, and I was the only one wearing a mask, but gosh did my wallet get wrung out. The clerk insisted that the dot in the last digit of the year of sale on one of the titles was a zero, and charged me an additional year of back registration fees. Over five hunderd dollars for three years (two past years and the coming year) of registration on a little motorcycle.🤬 I don't know where the money goes, as the roads around here are in terrible shape. I do know that the wear and tear put on the highway by a motorcycle is infantesimal, as is the administrative burden of processing a registration check. Anyway, when I got home I found a registration receipt that the previous owner had paid for one of those "back" years, so I'll send it along with a copy of the new receipt to the DMV in hopes of getting a refund. And while I'm at it, I'll ask that the registration be put on "non-op" status, and get a refund for the current year registration, too. No plans to ride that bike, as I bought it to flip.

Had a nice lunch with some friends in town, then realized I'd left the cylinder heads at home, so one less errand to run and another week of delay on that repair. Plenty left to do on that bike before the heads are needed, though, so no real time loss.

Reading email when I got home I found one from EA saying they'd shipped the land plane I ordered back in May. That's earlier than expected, even though it's still a long wait.

TGIF gang!🍻

Good Morning, it's Friday.
It's been a pretty busy week. Lots of Bookkeeping, and a ton of little paperwork requests, I think my to do list is longer than it's ever been. I still need to get my S I L's stuff moved back North in the next month (she hasn't packed yet ...) and the truck needs a once over first.
Talked to my wife, who now figures it will be another 10 -12 days before she's home (that's endless). Sorting things out with her dad. I'm staying out of everything, except SIL's move back ... I don't even want to be involved in that, but I want my home back.
The critters are fine.
It was nice to connect with some cousins as they drove through town yesterday. They understand that I may not be able to make in down for my Uncle's Celebration of Life Service in the days ahead.
I'm not sure what the day looks like yet - trip to Lordco Auto Parts to price out a few things for the truck ... spark plugs, spark plug wires, distrib cap, ignition rotor, fuel filter, air filter, - for a long trip, it needs to be in top form. Then check towing wiring, and get an oil change done also before said trip

Wagtail - sounds like you, and your wallet, got quite the workout :) good deals

Yesterday I saw a guy wearing a t-shirt that made me snicker ... It's All Sh#ts and Giggles, Until Somebody Giggles and Sh#ts.

Have a good Friday everyone

Ordered a set of rubber exercise bands in order to strengthen the muscles. We will see how it goes.

I have been using those bands also in my disclocated shoulder recovery. Currently working with the BLUE bands, the most resistance so far. My arm, shoulder and hand are feeling stressed this week. A strange kind of sore, but definately sore, and the fingers are numb still on a regular basis. I continue with exercises (but I don't think the yardwork is on that list). I may need another appointment wth the physio therapist in the near future. Grip strength still a bit of a challenge also. I carry on, doing most things.

surround the pole with prison barbed razor wire, and greasit down, add smelly stuff, and motion sensor that activates recorded dog barking. :)
Makes me think of when I had the Christian Book and Music Store ... youth would congregate by the dozens and that would ultimately intimidate customers and drive customers away ... so we played JAZZ music on the outside overhead speakers ... the youths gathering, then began to relocate to the other end of the strip mall, or party down ther road. I miss those days.

We've been looking at other companies, knowing full well that this conversation will have a high probability of going south, based on recent responses from them during phone calls. Abode is one of them.

Our system worked great when it was installed in 2017. It only recently started having problems, and I think I mentioned once before that one technician told us these problems seemed to coincide with the rollout of the 5G system. It's an older Honeywell Lynx Plus control panel, and I'm convinced that its built-in "long range radio" (it's a cell phone pcb) is just not compatible with 5G. So, they'll either install a system that does work, and credit us for the time our system was not working, or we'll get a new system somewhere else.
