Good morning, the low is 37 and it is going to 48°F. Wind S 11 mph.
Mostly cloudy.
When I got up this morning the temp inside was 77°F. Lots of large coals in the stove, to the point that I didn't need to restart the fire. Just throw in more wood.
When I got home in early October there were enough flies in this place, I swear I was in a horse barn except no horsey smell. Junior was leaving the windows open ALL day long. I put a stop to that and hung those fly paper strips up. That got rid of some, but not all. Also put up a couple of traps baited with maple syrup. I can't use chemical warfare on them because of the cats and dog. We have a 50# bag of D-earth and set up a couple of dishes of that with MS for bait. The population was going down slowly, then I found a recipe on the net that uses a half cup of water + a half cup of isopropanol alcohol (rubbing alcohol) + a tablespoon of cheap dish soap (I use Dawn). Put the water and alcohol into a spray bottle and put the soap in last. You see flies, give them a squirt of that mixture and they don't die on contact, but they die soon after.
I also have a food grade electric bug zapper in the kitchen, near the kitchen window and an outdoor zapper in the livingroom. They both run 24/7/365. If anyone knows of another fly eradicating system that works and is pet friendly and cheap, I am all ears.
I've got nothing to do today except chase flies,so I might as well 'medicate' my knee.
Have a safe day all
