Brin, I like the Swai better than Tillapia. It is sweeter and flakier. I had never heard of it until the Harveys grocery store where I shop at started to carry it. It was cheaper than the Tillapia so I tried it. Since then I have been buying it whenever it's on sale.
interesting, I tried some for the first time last week. I usually just walk on by the fish counter at the Acme, but when this Tilapia looking whitefish was advertised by 5.99 a pound, I tried it. Sort of like a pumped up Tilapia, but what I bought unfortunately didn't seem that fresh. So I dumped a bunch of mild salsa on it and it was fine. Now I wonder what the heavy metal content is...it's not the water they swim in I worry about, though it's a catfish so I assume it will eat anything on the bottom , but it's the cheap Chinese fish food of unknown purity they are likely feeding the fish in pens. Before I get intimate with a fish I'd like to know where's she been...
