apparently some serious rain here tomorrow from the second system.
they are banging the weather alarms already:
on Saturday, rain is expected, heavy at times, along with the
chance of thunderstorms. Event precipitation totals are expected
to average between 1.5 and 2.0 inches. The combination of ice
jams and heavy rain runoff could lead to flooding of creeks and
rivers in the area.

Might take another run down to the River tomorrow, see if it's flooding, get some pics.
At least it's just rain; I drove in icy slippery stuff this morning and there were cars in the ditches for sure.
My suburban has AT tires on it with really good winter grip so I just kept my speed at 35 most of the time and drove in light slush.
You have to pay attention and keep your tires in the grooves, which I'm sure is hard to do when one is on the phone, texting or
yapping away.

You have to pay attention...but all the deathgrip on the wheel is not going to help if you have a light car with summer tires on it, like
the smashed up VW I saw up on a bank in NJ on the way home, with three wreckers and lots of lights. Hit that frozen slush and your steering just disappears, during which time if you muck with the wheel when you finally do get traction you are headed off on an angle into a skid. And up the bank we go, must have scared the heck out of them, and the car was badly banged up. I hope they were ok.

Deep River Blues, you bet Larro, that's what every town mayor and fire chief has along this whole River. Hardly like the Mississippi overflowing but it does get the whole community up and helping each other. Which is always nice to see,
Two inches of rain on top of what we have is a lot of water, and much of the ground is still frozen, so it's going to move right along.
Going to work in the garage tomorrow, a lot easier to heat when it's fifty and raining out. I have tools that never made it back to the right place, and I just have
to clean up my mess. So I can then proceed to make another one of course.:confused3:

11*F Freezing rain forecast for western Maine after midnight. Warming to low 40's with rain tomorrow.

The roads are way too cold for freezing rain, that's going to be a mess even if it's just a bit of rain.

Did some errands in town this afternoon. The roads are a mess already, two intermittent tire tracks down to pavement surrounded by 2" thick ice everywhere else. The freezing rain we had Monday on top of the packed snow is still all there, hard as a rock.

32 degrees with a mist in the air heading to freezing rain today to start and then heavy rain throughout the day

what a lovely song. I was five years old when the Flood of 1955 hit our town, in August, when two storms met up and
truly, as the song said, it tried to wash us away. What was really weird is that the flood didn't hit until the next day when it was beautiful outside, all the
rain up the Delaware River, which goes and goes and goes, came down and took out the river towns. Bridges went down, five to six feet of water in the offices and shops on Main Street. My Dad put the snow plow back on our JD B, I got to ride on the rear hitch holding on the bouncy seat, and down we went to River Road to plow six inches of mud, and dead animals, off our friends driveways. I still remember the smell.

Flooding really is bad news. But all it does is remind us that we are sitting too close to Mother Nature's domain, like the condos in the Keys...sooner or later the River will rise and you will be washed away.

After I get the garage cleaned up today I'm going to take my camera down to the River and see how high it is. One always approaches the river from higher ground, need to be able to back it up quickly if need be. Learned that with fire trucks... we have a canal along both sides of the River here, and what's called the Towpath on top of the berm, where the mules used to pull the barges up and down the canal. The problem is that there were houses over on the other side of the canal in a few places and you always worried about getting a truck in there and not being able to get out and back over the little red wooden bridge that connected to River Road.
Very picturesque and very flood prone. Not where I'd like to live...
