I got a few suggestions... Noisy, loud, obnoxious, chatterbox, No? Don't like those names, :confused3: okay, I tried

I concur. Those six guineas I took a pic of in my back lawn have now taken up residence in the woods behind the barn.
What a racket! Squawk squawk squawk squawk, repeat a thousand times
they must have some Olympic sized vocal cords, made with Kevlar apparently

Nice to be home. Left early in the dark, decided not to take a chance on the coastal route, Route 17 which apparently goes from Savannah to Portsmouth. And right through my little city of ten thousand. So, back on route 95, and again a nice ride, much more traffic today, lots of motorhomes headed somewhere and clearly the weekend was already starting for many travelers. But 95 wasn't bad, lots of police which was good, ticketing away, including some dufus who tried to turn around in the middle of the road, you know, where the police sit with radar aimed one way or the other. With the really big sign saying not to use, official business only.
Perhaps that did not translate well to some foreign language. I saw the state trooper waving his arms at bit at the occupants so seemed to be having some communication issues... Well, if that driver was licensed, he now has a ticket to pay.

Pretty hot out here, about 90 and a little sticky, the lawn is ok, can slide for a day or two, load of dirty wash in, and I'm just going to chill out.
Charleston is a lovely city; I actually didn't get downtown this time but saw a lot of the barrier islands, which I hadn't before. Kiawah is on the South side of Charleston, Wild Dunes and a few others are on the North side. The whole place looks like a good storm would clear it down to a flat beach. The front half of the resort had to be fully rebuilt after the last hurricane hit there.

got out into the ocean today for a swim, funny, or maybe not so funny....not too many people out beyond waist level. All kinds of folks chomped by sharks on this coast and I think it shows. Not like the Jersey shore as a kid where one could swim far out, until the lifeguard finally had enough and blew his whistle. Always was a decent swimmer, much less so now with my arthritis issues. But it sure felt good, way too warm, no zip at all, and high tide this time instead of low, so relatively shallow water goes out for a ways. one hour on the beach was enough for me, read my kindle, sadly nothing exceptional to look at...;)

I'm not convinced about the boat I saw. Didn't fall in love...very nice boat, fancy inside, but while the lower helm was seriously cool, the rest of the boat was just ok and didn't seem efficiently laid out. To get to the engines, one goes down a hatch in the cockpit, crawls through an opening with two big aluminum fuel tanks on each side and then you pop out into another room where the engines are. Bent over of course. The fuel filters for the engines were remote located to the rear, which is good, but in places where only midgets or contortionists could access. Fuel filters that clog while out in the ocean have to be able to be changed very easily and that was sure not the case here. Sure, I could move them, but the list just went on. All the marine electronics and the tvs/stereos were original 15 year old units, vcrs, tube tvs, etc, looked very dated. I don't think he used them.

But the biggest issue was a safety one. The walk forward on each side was not easy at all, the width to squeeze by hanging on to various handles was very narrow, and easy to trip on. My older Bertram was much easier to get around. I think I'm going to rethink looking at an older Grand Banks, Defever, Albin or similar trawlers. Modern boats have put such a priority on inside roominess and taking the living room with you that outside ergonomics are really affected. The narrower that walkway, the bigger the salon below... It wasn't that I couldn't get around, but my friends, my age, are going to be my crew at times, and would I want my dear old friends trying to get forward to the anchor if the boat was rocking?... Sure, if the path was safe. But it didn't feel so on this boat.
Enough about boats, it's all a compromise somewhere.

Tomorrow I need to work out near the roadside. Some of the huge vines I had cut are falling down out of the trees above, vines 2 inches thick and larger. Definitely something to do in the cool of the morning.

Bought 6 Guineas yesterday on the way home through Austin (Callahan's General Store). 3 Lavenders and 3 Pearl. Now we need to name them. They made it through the night in their new coop. Dog proof, so this batch should survive.

How about calling the athletic looking one Casserole and the others Tasty, Delicious, Scrumptious, Yummy and Lip-Smacking

? :licking: :)

I did not think people ate guineas. The wildlife, pets and cars always got them first.

Oops, sorry if some think of guinea fowl as pets . We see them as an alternative to chicken - most often in more expensive restaurants.

The ewes were sorted this afternoon, with only those fit for breeding retained. The rest have been moved on to another farm for a short period before going to market. I am used to ewes and lambs going off to market, however I was a little sad to say goodbye to "Panda" (we don't usually give them names). She has been a bit of a character over the years. Now with no teeth and a fast declining body, it would not be right for her to face another winter.

Been on the 5420 tractor for about 4 or 5 hours. Whew! Eeees hot. It is the first time I've actually mowed the fields this season, so it is slow going. There's no market for the hay right now and I don't want to have to pay the neighbor to come bale it. So I figured I'd knock it down because of the fire hazard it presents, and all the rodents it hides.

Only got maybe 30% done. Even the tractor needed a rest. I could tell the hydraulic oil was starting to get warm. I also need to tighten the clutch on the bush hog...

My 4310 still has erratic action in the rockshaft. I'm researching it. There is a bit of slop in the lever to servo linkage but I don't think it accounts for what it is doing. When moving to lever to lower the 3 pt, it will suddenly fall many inches and then pick itself back up. Deere doesn't sell any parts for the actual Hema brand rockshaft control and they want $550 or so for it. Ouch. I think I'll take it apart myself and see whats up.

There are 2 shafts that come into it on the left connected by the link which pushes on the valves. Probably something wrong with the links.

Kyle it does not look that complicated, as long as you can get to it easily.

/ Good morning!!!! #37,314
The fields look relatively empty this morning, with only 150 ewes left and not a single lamb.

Three bundles of 5'6" x 4" posts have arrived as replacements for those on the top boundary fence, which are starting to rot and break off. I have arranged for a tractor mounted post knocker to come and drive them in, so today I need to set them out. I started yesterday evening, but now the nights are closing in, by 8 o'clock it was too dark to continue.

Kyle, you sound to have one of those faults that is both frustrating and intriguing - in a way, better than any crossword puzzle. I'm sure quite a few on TBN would enjoy taking it apart with you. With a bit of luck, it will be obvious what is wrong when you get inside to have a look.

Need to get coffee started brewing. 66° with light fog this morning. Heading to 78° with thunderstorms in afternoon. Not much planned for today. Go into town for local farmers market.
Good Morning All.

it is 72 and DARK!!! Going to 89 w/ a feel like of 98 and 50% chance of rain. We did get a good soaking yesterday. Not sure the farrier knows how to work on the horses dry, rains every time he comes.

Yesterday I loaded 24 fence posts from TSC and this morning I am going to put up that cross fence.

69 and a bit foggy, with only 83 forecast. Got a nice shower late yesterday.

Eric, I guess you have "empty nest syndrome" now that all the lambs are gone.

Today is dove season opener, so should be fun around here this afternoon.

58 right now...high of 83 today. Looks like some much needed rain may be rolling in by midweek.
Main chore of today is to get the belt back on the Z920 mower. If some of you recall, it popped off when engaging the PTO last week. I do need to find out why it came off.
I have other chores...not sure which will be done in which order.

Ugh. 78* with 99% humidity. I am going to ride this morning. Just need to figure out where to put the scuba tank. Not much planned today (not sure how that happened), however that's my personal assessment. SWMBO may have other ideas, and just has not given me a preview of all the things "we" need to do this weekend. I usually get the "now coming to a farm near you" preview on Wednesday or Thursday. She's been oddly silent on that. I should make a run for it now.
