-16 right now...that's a killer! But it's going to warm up to a nice toasty 25 today.

The prediction for the Thursday into Friday storm is still up in the air...the prediction now is for anywhere between 3 and 8 inches, total accumulation. Looks like a fun drive in on Friday morning though...no matter what.

drive safely Roy, looks like the worst for once will be further South of you.

Today the panicked and frenzied driving will begin. There is a certain breed of folk, we always joked
they were "city folk" who seem to drive crazily the day before the storm. Seriously competitive, got to get there first
attitude, I suppose to get the last can of pork and beans on the shelf...

I was supposed to take my VW into the shop tomorrow; we chatted and I'm going in this afternoon, just for some new filters. If it were the suburban,
I'd go out in anything. But not the VW, it's ok but in eight inches of snow it's pretty dumb being out in something other than 4wd/awd. Most folk can't drive well at extreme conditions as they don't do it enough. Like the folk in Atlanta. Time for another log in the fire and a top off for the gen gas.

13 degrees going to 27. My hand and arm are feeling much better, I have big tree limbs down on the farm i take care, and I am so itching to go over there and cut up those limbs with my chain saw and haul them off with my grapple. Nothing better. and nothing more stupid for me, need another couple weeks to heal this hand.
My right hand is just itching for those FEL controls...sigh. I dropped hints to see if a buddy wants to go cut up the limbs for me into 8-10 foot pieces, but he is exhausted after spending days cleaning up his own place. And we all know the next one will just do more damage. You work so hard growing these trees and shrubs...

It's funny, I've been waiting for the tree guy to come take down three trees on my place, horrible gum trees, and chip them up. Needless to say, he is buried.
Now would you think any of those trees I want to come down would do so naturally?

I just put the f-150 in 4WD, lock out the OD and putt along between 30 and 45, depending on conditions...
At least we're not getting the ice predicted for the SE...that's a true disaster down south!

I always forget to mention this. Seriously cold weather? Good time to do a self clean on your oven. Boy that sure heats up the kitchen nicely.
though I always have to open a window, my alarm system is pretty hyper for smoke.
And of course a good time to bake, anything...
Put the oven on preheat, wait for the ding, and it's warmer already.
Might as well have those expensive BTU's do double duty.

22 this morning high of 29 later with snow and lots of it , been since 2009 since we've seen this kind of snow. The storm is so powerful and dynamic we may have thunder snow. Those who clean snow with your tractors be careful and enjoy the time in your tractor. Everyone please be safe this is a dangerous storm

We have 1/2 inch of sleet so far...coming down pretty good but as long as it stays sleet not so bad....the freezing rain they are predicting is what they are calling Catostropic...since they are predicting up to a 1 inch layer of freezing rain and they said a 12 inch square and 1 inch thick sheet of ice weighs 6 lbs just as an example of how heavy a 1 inch covering of Ice will be on power lines and trees....I sure hope we just get sleet and snow...but we are in the warning area for the 1 inch....sigh.....

keep your head down Brin. I hated this weather as a volunteer fireman. The wires would be arcing and spitting and if it was snowing heavily, you weren't sure where it was until flame popped up somewhere. Scary working around. Well, we just surrounded it, blocked the roads if need be, and waited for PECO.
Two days ago Brin I saw an Alabama Electric truck up here, along with a line of T&E Electric trucks out of Illinois. Changing out poles. I bet that Alabama Electric hightailed it home shortly after I saw it.

So far we now have about 1 inch of sleet on the ground...not much in the trees yet...we are right on the border between the real bad ice storm area and the not so bad ...mix of snow, sleet & ice area....I hope we don't lose power but if we do I'll find out how well my PTO generator works...20 KW ...for the whole house...You will be getting some of this mix up there ...right ?
