Don, qood question. I'm sticking to major roads but I may not make it to the beach in Alabama. I may have to cut North from New Orleans. Hope they are ok...that place sure floods easily.
I look at the weather carefully for the ten day outlook at each next stop and I start several days ahead. Then I'll know if I have to detour but also may just be sticking to interstates. But then it all grinds to a halt in Asheville NC. Sure aren't going anywhere near there. I'm trying to get up to 81 and head home that way, see Buppies, my brother, my normal 81 stuff, maybe Buckeye or
M7040, depends upon what day of week it is.
I"m booked through Alabama Shores. That last one might be iffy.
but it will be at least two weeks, maybe three before I hit the worst areas
hopefully major roadways will be ok then.
it's really heartbreaking to see those flood pictures.
my home town flooded in 1955 and while our farm was up on the bluffs, we
plowed mud with snow plow in august for our friends down on River Road.
those flooded areas are now covered in who knows what chemicals and residues of anything laying on the surface. Every possible industrial and agricultural waste.
And lots and lots of dead animals.
which then start to smell. It's an awful mess to clean up.
But clean up they will. Sad so many people died, Helene was a killer.
