John Deere is spending a lot of money on advertising to counter the negative push back they got from sending work to Mexico. $2 billion in new US factories in last five years.
their ad was popping up here.
I think we have a special relationship with Mexico, reinforced by my driving through a lot of what used to be their land.
My Audi Q5 was built in Mexico, very high fit/finish/build quality, likely due to automation, so are a bunch of top name vehicles.
of course if products made in Mexico are used as a political football, they
face other issues.
I think it also helps the security of the US to have a strong manufacturing base South of us. Say in case something very bad happens here, like Yellowstone going off.
one thing I realized driving back and forth this country was that a huge amount of our land is not being used for much of anything. Not even cows.
perhaps much of this is out West and on a huge reservation, we have a LOT of reservations in this country. One could say it was the least we could do.
yet I remain saddened by the proliferation of Native American based gambling resorts.
We have a lot of them too.
we have plenty of available land and one thing was abundantly clear driving the Rockies, we will never run out of rock to build stuff with. Those mountain ranges
naturally are made of it. But the rock formations are endless, simply endless.
We got rock.
and we've got salt. I drove over a bunch of that at Great Salt Lake.
reminds me I should hose down bottom of rv when I get home.
Then a big can of waxy spray oil on whatever I can get to.
Without being up on a lift, hard to do
doesn't get light for another 45 minutes, plus it's cold out there, no rush this morning
