So, going to do it over the right way, sink it down at least 18 inches or whatever the rental trencher will go. If I'm not running electric, is there any benefit to running water line through a conduit? Not like I'm going to run cable tv back to the barn...my portable phone reaches, barely, can't imagine why I would want to run anything down there in the future.

Every time I've used direct bury wire without a conduit I've dug another trench nearby to run something else. You can't predict the future, so save yourself some grief and put in a 2" conduit for your electrical and you'll have room to run whatever else you need later. Do yourself a favor when you fish the wire and make sure to leave behind a heavy nylon line to pull whatever ends up going in there next. You may never get around to using it, but the next fella to come along will love you for it!

4The Royal Pleco is gone ... guy has some other fish though, including six Zebra Plecos, which he is trying to get to breed and are not for sale.

That fish is awesome! It would go great with the two zebra motorcycles, zebra mountain bike, zebra place mats and napkins, zebra scented candle, 2'x3' wall mounted photograph, and even the zebra 10/22. If it's as hearty as a regular Pleco, that would be the fish for me...

Well, my dumb smartphone decided to do a factory reset yesterday while I was playing Frisbee with Coconino. Everything back to the day it came out of the box. I've recovered most of the info but still have more to do. No idea why, unless I bumped it in my pants pocket in such a way as to cause it...but seems unlikely.

Getting low on coffee, so I'm going to roast a few batches today. Kyle, tell your wife I prefer pour-over, too.

43 degrees, high for the day, dropping below freezing tonight with rain showers coming in mid morning. Much colder weather for next two days

Hopefully my helpers will get here early and we can get most of the pavers laid in the barn before it rains too much. I need to go drop the bucket, put the forks on and move the pallets of my old front walkway pavers over to where they will be laid.
The area has been leveled with ABC and then a coating of sand; hopefully should move right along this morning. But I won't have enough and the few new ones I have to buy won't quite match so need to think about where to put them where they won't "jump out". Maybe along the wall...
Hopefully after today I will no longer track mud into my wood shop.

And when my two strong firemen helpers are here, I'm letting them pick that lumber out of the water ditch. And then I'm going to think some more about whether I even want that plastic pipe in there. Now I have a lot of left over floor tiles from the house renovation. Perhaps I could "tile" the area....

Good morning. A light covering of wet snow this morning.

60 years or so ago someone wanted a more direct route from the front yard to a cattle building at the rear, however there was a long farm building in the way. Their simple solution was to take out the brick walls of the building.



When we converted the barn into our home, we decided to keep that as a "feature", so we still have the 8' wide tunnel running through between our kitchen and the attached workshop. It is a good place to keep a wheelbarrow of wood on hand for the wood burners. The barrow needs positioning 2/3 the way in to keep dry in strong winds. I got caught out last night when the wind changed direction, blowing wet snow from the east and giving the wood a soaking. Fortunately there were enough embers still glowing from last night to start the fire with a steady hiss.

I have heard the small clay terra cotta ones called tiles, just not long metel or plastic culverts.

We also call those short lengths of fired clay pipe drainage tiles.

Our property, which used to be a corn field and is around 2600' long, has at least one run of such tile probably about 4" or 5" O.D. ... it terminates in the lower front yard ... right where the big wet spot is ... :laughing:

I know this because I found it with the backhoe when I was trenching ... to put in a french drain and plastic culvert to drain the upper field ... :laughing:

Backhoes are much better at finding drains than any divining rod.

Drew, sorry for your loss.

For the lowest profile ditch crossing, I have sunk twin wall pipe with the top of the pipe down to the level of the bottom of the ditch, mesh and round stones closing off the entrance and exit. The water flow in the ditch goes down into the ground at one side and back up at the other. A 6" pipe is more than enough for me, so your 12" should take a huge water flow, even with the ends slightly restricted this way. I guess that wouldn't work if you are wanting to provide shelter for homeless snakes and alligators.

31 this morning and headed to 39 here in GSM. A light dusting of snow fell over night and really changed the view. But then I am at 2200 ft.

Off to do some sightseeing. Wonder how much of the park is closed. Will have to stop and see.

We used to get culvert tile in 3ft lengths made out of concrete. Just but them up and make any length culvert you want.

52 going to 58 with 20-28 mph winds. Rained hard all night so I expect to lose some trees today. SIL's are coming by today to see the new horses and exchange Christmas gifts. That will be good.

Well I had a learning experience yesterday. My farrier came by to work on the horses and my new one takes a size 10 shoe. I didn't know they make a size 10 and no one in FL stocks a shoe that big. So she is running barefoot for 6 weeks, which is no big deal because I run all the others barefoot. But no heavy driving for a while. And for those that have never had horses, this means her hooves are 10" wide and 10" long... them are big ol' feet

I was behind in reading this thread....saw where you earlier talked about having to lug that wood back to the barn. I thought to myself - Drew needs a set of pallet forks...the most used tractor implement that I own. But I read further and notice this post and you have pallet forks......I have a bad back. I use the forks for everything from hauling brush, to lifting things out of the bed truck, to clamping a solid door to the forks for a portable field work bench. They also work good for popping small trees out of the ground. Save the back!!!!!!

Good Morning! 50F and raining @ 6:30AM. Cloudy with periods of rain. High 56F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall may reach one inch.

Another 0.75" of rain fell yesterday, making this month the wettest January in years. Not much fun being outside in this stuff, but it sure beats hauling water in the summer if the well goes dry!

More paperwork today: have to change all the automatic charges over to a new VISA number; the old one got snagged in another data breach. Never had a problem with the debit card, and I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to use that instead. Anybody here doing that?
