"when I retire"..... I am worse off now for getting things done than when I was working. Don't know how to explain it, but everybody I know says the same thing.

That's what I hear I just want to try it for a little while to see if it fits

.23 inches, not much rain for sure today, had to go look that up to provide a reply.
I am reminded of the saying my grandfather used to repeat ad nauseum, well, he was old...,
"better than a slap in the face from a wet fish".
one assumes this deals with the plight of someone working in the fish market. Say maybe around 1910.
or perhaps the fisherman himself.
either way, the rain was enough to give the sod a soak. But I doubt it did much for the sod under a heavy tree canopy.
And no tornado despite a widespread alert. 50 degree temp drops in one day can sure make for interesting weather.

and lastly, retirement is wonderful. Just make sure the numbers work financially so you don't have to worry about money, as much as any of us can do that. Particularly if you have kids or elderly parents with needs. Then you can focus on having fun with your wife and family, traveling, spending Wednesdays and not just Sundays in the garden...
Highly recommended.

a slight caveat:
I have also heard the wife's phrase:
I married you for love, not for lunch
My wife never wanted me to leave. Well, most of the time...;)
Others may need more personal space; I have several friends in that category where both held jobs of authority.
But i sure do think there are a lot of wives out there who say "finally" when their husband retires.
Personally I think the trick is to have some good separate hobbies and interests, as well as core common interests. No stifling of each other, just enabling.
Easier said than done.
But some of you who have been married so long are surely good mariners on the sea of communal bliss. And masters of doing lunch.

Good evening! Hmmm, do we need a "Good Evening" thread or will the morning thread accommodate random thoughts and observations later in the day??

48˚ and I went for a nice evening stroll and found a few ducks taking a break on the golden pond. I don't know what kind they are but they seemed content.

Good Evening!

When I got up this morning at 8:20 and looked outside my thought was, 'glad it's not a Monday morning for me.' That's retirement. :)

We had a little over 1" of wet snow this morning, then rain off and on the rest of the day and evening. It was within a degree +- of freezing all day.

TXDon did you get your light fixture working, or did I miss that?

Nice deer and good memories with your son WayneB.

wngsprd: I'm getting ready to butcher my deer from Saturday. Good lean venison, anyone? Hope it was tasty. Do you hang it outside or in a cooler?

Drew, just as a reference it takes approximately 1/4 inch of rain to wet 1 inch of soil.

Good Morning!
Do I get credit for beating Roy for first post of the morning?

Well I cheated, I had a late night event in DC at the Capitol Club working my part-time self employment gig.

I will say that once again I did get to shake hands & say hello with Skunk Baxter (let's see who knows who that is...)... But that is all I can say...

I got home about midnight and it is supposed to get cold so I re-lit the wood stove (or tried to) I'd been gone almost 12 hours...

All my wood seemed damp from the rain all day and it took 35 min to light the stove...

I've got 2 swallows left on my Yuengling Black & Tan and the Jalapeno Cheetos are gone, so I'm off to bed in (gulp) one more swallow...

I had 2 job interviews today, got another tomorrow, who knows, something will happen someday...

Be well all,
David

PS - Buppies, thank you for asking about me sir...

Distance makes the heart grow fonder.

At our house in Alexandria, Va we can't really get more than 50 yards apart and still be in our yard. Down here in Mississippi my "shops" are about 100 yards away and since they are all metal frequently the cell phone signal is nil. Thus whereas in Virginia there is frequent discourse much of it is real small talk, in Mississippi we go for hours without seeing or hearing each other but know the other is nearby.
