16.2F @ 03:30 ...

About time to hit the rack ... right after I check/load the wood furnace.

A TBN friend stopped by today and I helped him a little with a project he's working on ... still have some welding to do on that.

Got a little bit done on the logsplitter ... welded up the support/mounting arms for the table grate.

Tonight I fired up the kerosene heater in the garage and started on the tractor after I let the space warm up for a couple of hours. Finally got the rear wheel off - first time since we bought it that it's ever been removed ... only took about 1/2 hour and 20 to 30 cycles with the compressor and the 1/2" impact gun to break loose four bolts and two nuts.

Checked the axle to see if it was loose and it was not.

Cleaned up the inner portion of the of the seal and used a 1" x 1" wood stick and hammer to tap it back into the axle housing and remounted the wheel. Still have to torque nuts and bolts. Installed the new breather vent.

I brought down 5 gallons of new fluid from the shop ... will drain whatever is still in there and refill it tomorrow and call it good.

It will be good to have it back in operation.

Good morning.

The sheep I had last year (not the ones with me now) have been lambing at a farm a mile or two away up the hill for almost a week now.
As the lambs are born they generally get a couple of days inside a dry shed and away from predators before going into the fields.
The first of them should be coming down here any day now.

In preparation for this annual sheep swap, me and the dog have been gathering in the sheep we have now.
They are all up in a field up by the road, all ready to go off for a long vacation.

Great to see all those pictures coming through again. I never tire of seeing snow, trees and planting, more snow - and the occasional *****.

good morning all, 23 degrees, going up to a balmy 39 today. Young helper comes today; we will pick up sticks together and likely get the rest of my orchard holes dug. Tomorrow night it's supposed to drop to 2 degrees here, really cold for this area for sure. Decided to be smart and will drain the water out of my water roller. Two days of sub freezing temps and down into single digits might wreck the thing; suppose I should have put a gallon of antifreeze in it. Well draining and refilling is easy.

My Kubota sure knocks and rattles when starting in this weather. Kills a few bugs too. Always wondered if I kept the key on after the glow plug light goes off, does it keep heating longer if I hold the switch another five seconds or am I just losing the heat up to that point? Smarter minds than mine are needed....
The little Yanmar in my JD garden tractor also is noisier but relatively quiet compared to the Kubota.

maybe someday I'll have that heated barn...but until then, the flannel lined pants went on this morning.

to heat glow plugs again once light goes out turn key off and right back on again.

I'll try that today. Thought they were thermostatically controlled and not just on a timer.
Timer sounds more reliable.

I believe they are on timer. This works well on backhoe and rollers. The rollers in fact have kubota engines

5 out this AM, no wind. Another fast mover expected this late afternoon.

Lots of wood in the yard still, pipes unfrozen, looking for another "real" job again.

Stay warm everyone.

Hey Thomas, I'd pay 35 for someone to get on my roof. Too bad about the wait list though. Good luck.
