That looks very peaceful Drew. How much snow you actually get?

been very quiet here all day. Did some food shopping this morning, then went home, and the snow started. Ah, just a few flurries. Nope, it just kept coming down. About three inches so far, enough to keep everyone off the roads.
And while I have a long lane, those good old boys with their old trucks and dual glasspacks sure can't be heard today.
Now if I could keep the flocks of starlings from stripping every single bird feeder I've got. Like locusts descending on the local birds; they don't stand a chance. The birdfeeders were rocking back and forth from those big birds constantly jumping on them, sometimes five or six at a time. Now everything is pretty much empty.

Going up to mid 40's tomorrow, hopefully I won't have to go find my snow shovels packed away down in the barn.

Drew, time to kick back and make you some hot steaming French onion soup.

6F & calm. We made it to 9F today but the sun was pale.

Starting at -13 this morning to +9, the average temp for the day was -4F. I bet that is the lowest day average we will see for the rest of the season, which is something to look forward to in the 'hope springs eternal' category. :D

Drew that's some pretty snow you have there. Did you try a putting a sign on the bird feeder: No Starlings! ? Maybe some hawk decoys would help.
More than 20 species of hawk, owl and falcon are known to occasionally predate feral starlings in North America, though the most regular predators of adults are likely to be urban-living peregrine falcons or merlins

Cowboys lost their playoff game in Green Bay because of the heat.

Got the welding gas picked up, logs cut at the shop and the house for firewood, then split some and got good fires going in all three wood-burning appliances, bird feeders refilled - a little woodpecker didn't even wait for me to fill the thistle feeders a couple feet away before he was on suet feeders - got the steel cut and welded on to mount the wedge in the mill, and cut a couple of pieces of square tube and solid round stock for the log lift.

The upstairs t'state was reading 70F when The 'Cake hit the door ...

Just knocked off one of those hot sausage sandwiches and am about to head back up to the shop.

I'm hoping it will be a productive evening.

Up to 18 here, but the wind is pretty steady at 20 mph. I'd rather have it like sunday, with it colder, but no wind. Also, it would be nice to see the sun, you know, once a week? Twice if we are good? :)

Yow! That's a monster! Bet it kicks out some heat when it gets goin' though ;)

Never thought about the wind forcing air down the stove pipe. I'm running a modern stove, but it's an EPA one with an outside air kit. I'd hate to think that a strong wind could force air through the ember bed and back out the outside vent. That would torch the duct, and the wall it goes through, for sure.

Cut my eye teeth writing assembly for 8080 and 8085 CPUs, then "graduated" to Fortran and C on DEC minis and main frames. Man, that was a LONG time ago, and probably the best part of my career, before all the politics crept in. But I started as a weldor, and picked up a lot of trade skills along the way. Love them big V8s and huntin' an' fishin', too, but the best part is livin' out in the middle of nowhere... :cloud9:

We could be Brothers... Or past coworkers. I wrote assembly for 8080 & Z80's long, long ago. I had a PDP 11 in my basement taught myself DOS from combining what I knew of VMS & System 5 Unix. LOL.

I've worked at Intel, Dell, Oracle, Intergraph, DARPA, and many others (not in that order).

I love living in middle of nowhere.

And yes, the stove gets really warm!
:D
Be well bro!
David

Bad day. Went to tighten up my pressure gage on my pumps system and the damm thing broke off. Water everywhere and its very cold out in the garage. Got a new gage from TSC and put it on. Started the system back up and it wouldn't come up to pressure and shut off. I was told to bleed the air out. Its tough being a city slicker in the country.
