42F this morning, headed for a high of "only" 59 with little wind and overcast skies. Chance of rain tomorrow but little or no accumulation. What a tease.
Funny thing happened yesterday. Was trying to eat breakfast and had trouble keeping food in my mouth, and bit my right cheek a couple times. Things got more interesting on the way into town when my right eye started watering and I had trouble blinking. Pulled over and called my GP, he wasn't there and the nurse tells me to head to the ER to get checked out. Hardly any wait, and the doc says it's not a stroke. So I relax a little bit while he goes out to look something up. Comes back a few minutes later and says he's pretty sure I have something called Bell's Palsey. It's caused by inflammation of a nerve that controls my facial muscles on the right side. Fixes me up with a couple of new prescriptions and sends me on my way, all in less than an hour. On the way out the door a nurse hands me a roll of paper bandage tape and a referral to an ophthalmologist. It seems the watery eye is due to the lid not blinking, and if I don't tape the eye shut when I sleep it may dry out and damage the cornea. So taped the thing shut last night and today I'll see about another appointment. As if I don't have enough trouble sleeping already. Anyway, with a little luck it'll clear up in a few weeks, so in the mean time I'll just have to get used to chewing more carefully and using eye drops.
Ugh, what next?
