"After I got the belt changed on the x300 JD riding mower the management wanted a lesson in how to run it. Appears she has never mowed a lawn in our 38 years together. This must change. She also claims to want to learn how everything on the 5045E works in case she needs it when I'm not around. This should be interesting. Of course she drove a standard shift 60 passenger school bus for years over Vermont back roads so it is well within her capabilities."

Good Morning. 1020, partly cloudy, 83F with 76% humidity. Forecast high of 84F with 50% chance of thunderstorms today, and a low of 68F tonight.

I have a rare Sunday wedding at work today. Also have the Knights of Pythias, a 5th Sunday service club. {think black Shriner's} They always have the real southern food, so I will be eating good today.

It looks like the Nascar race from Dover has been pushed to FoxSports1 today. I'm betting the ratings won't be "Monster". Lots of folks won't find it.

Hope everyone has a good day,

Larro

good Sunday morning all.

Planted five more trees yesterday, have a butterfly bush ready for tomorrow to finish, replacing something that did not make it thru the winter. The more I plant, the more I'd better get that water wagon ready...and I guess time to think about running a line over from the house to the orchard and use up the large supply of 1 inch water hose I have. While I can do it with my subsoiler, am thinking it might be easier renting one of those gas powered edger/trenches like the landscapers use, which digs a 1.5 inch wide 7 inch deep trench. Besides I can lay pipe by myself that way; using a subsoiler from what I've seen requires a second guiding hand, even with the pipe laying attachment on the subsoiler. As much as I'd like to use the tractor, sometimes there's a better tool...

And I surely need to consult with Larro about my ongoing problem of spigot envy. I've got it bad...;)

You don't want to do it like I did. I did use a middle buster on the 3930 to cut the sod out of the way, but there was still plenty of opportunity for me to use the Georgia Backhoe.

I added two kinds of apple persimmon and another olive tree Friday morning before work. {all three are full of fruit, so I should have a harvest this year} When I'm through there will be about 6 trees per spigot. I have all my hose ends and splitter valves bought. I just have to cut everything to the right length and put the ends in place. I have been saving old, leaking soaker hoses to put around the trees, but they are so old and leaking it is hard to put ends on them. I may just use short lengths of cheap hose and drill holes in it. I tried it out on a row of tomato plants and it does work.

64 this morning and headed to 76 today. .25 inches of rain yesterday. Really thought we would have gotten more because of what we drove through but it must have moved just a few miles east of the house.

Still didn't finish the loader repair. Did some more welding on it till dad got here. Then we switched to building trusses for the building. We built 4 in about 4 hours. Now that included stopping to put baler that he brought with him in the barn as the first rounds of showers came through. And having to dig through the wood pile for the right boards. Had to stop to go eat with my sister.

Maybe I can work on loader again today. But cattle have to atleast be sorted today maybe vaccinated and de wormed. We'll see how much time we have.

68°F and .27 inches rain last 24 hours.

Will spend the day turning larger pieces of wood into smaller pieces of wood with my newly assembled Ryobi, almost cheap, table saw and then impaling them with sharp metal objects.

Be safe
Have a great day

Blew the main drive belt on the X300 the other day. ...but you have to wonder why instead of all these stickers telling you to not run over children they don't add a few telling you how to change the belts.

Because lawyers for children are expensive...

So now I am on a hunt for harnesses. Hoping to get a burn permit today

Very nice. I first imagined it was going to be a well used wreck that would need a lot of work. Now it looks in pristine condition and all ready to go once you get the harnesses.

1100 bucks for a trencher/edger...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dDN8b_nhtE
is it me or does it look like one has to pull this thing backwards while the blade is trying to make it go forward?

Definitely something to rent for a week and give back.

Yes, definitely rent. I don't remember how the last walk behind trencher I rented worked, but the last ride on had the seat facing the direction of travel with the operator twisting around all the time to keep an eye on where the digging bar was going. Very hard on the upper back and neck, but it got the job done. That turned out to be about 2000' of trench, up to 2' deep, a lot of it through shale. The rental agency made sure it had the proper carbide teeth on the digging chain for the stone. FWIW, it was a Ditch Witch RT40. Only problem I had was when I ran it out of fuel because the gauge was broken. Had to figure out how to prime the Diesel engine, but that was easy after reading through the owner's manual I found on line. IIRC, I had it for five or six days, but only paid for two because they were slow in coming to pick it up. I think the cost was a few hundred bux. I was supposed to pick it up in town, but when I arrived the trencher hadn't made it there yet. So instead of taking it back to the agency, they just headed to my place and I met them there, so delivery and pickup was also free.

Of all the machines available for rent, trenchers probably get more abuse than any of them. Try to rent from a reputable shop, and give the thing a close inspection looking for loose or broken parts. Also get the agent to start and run it for you, both so you'll know how it works and to verify that it'll run.:2cents:
