a lovely cool morning of 58, but going all the way up to high 80's today in clear weather. That changes as of tomorrow where thunderstorms are predicted each day this week.
After that big rain last week, the lawn is higher than I have ever seen it. At least the bare spots are starting to fill in.
Still not sure if I have to rip out all the lawn in front of my home and sod it, since numerous attempts to reseed have failed, due to rivers of water running over that area.
But what is there is going to get mowed today; helper coming to pick up sticks and weedeat. Still don't have my trimming mower back from the shop, real pita doing 5 acres of lawn without a trimming mower.
went to a cabinet shop two miles from my home, they specialize in making drawers. So I took a few drawer "boxes" from their huge pile of "leftovers/misfits" and tried them out in my woodshop; they will do fine. 4 fairly deep 21 inch drawers, 4 16 inch drawers will do wonderfully to put my hand power tools away. Bought the "boxes" for 15 dollars apiece instead of 50, they will put oak fronts on each for 10 dollars each, and then I'll have my carpenter install them. Ten dollars each for the slides seemed reasonable. I've never built a drawer frame in my life and while it doesn't look hard, my local carpenter will do it quickly and inexpensively. And it will look, and likely work, much better than I could do it when he is done. Of course I go behind him and do the sanding and finishing.
THEN, finally, finally, finally, I can start unpacking moving boxes full of clamps, hand tools, whatever and get those tools that have sat in boxes for the last 9 months out of there. Almost all my wood clamps rusted from the humidity so it will be a slow process of cleaning up everything. of course I'd rather be taking rust off clamps then figuring out what to do with numerous assortments of screws and hardware that all came out of bins and landed in piles on the bottom of boxes.
Lot of sorting to do. Good job to do in July or August sitting in the a/c...
trying to balance my work around the home with some quiet time. Am on last of four novels of the Highlander series, which is fun because the Scots in the story are now moving into North Carolina, where surprisingly there were Scottish settlements. Some perhaps from Scots fleeing persecution from the Crown.
Also got hooked on watching Downton Abbey. Between the two, I'm getting quite a dose of British/Scotch history.
Have a verra nice day...
