The 2 rents mentioned were $500/mon for a 2 bedroom, $600 for a 3/2. One had almost bought, but unable to get a mortgage.
No mention is GA or section 8, but probably not. Many are affordable due to absentee ownership, some due to being just basic, even unpermitted structures. Very mixed bag in Puna District. Leilani Estates has reputation of being one of the nicer Puna subdivisions with good number of retired owners. Not a lot of jobs in that area. Lot of alternative lifestyles in Puna.

David, is that where Elton John lives?

Big thunderstorm last night but thankfully only dropped about .14” of rain.
Got to grocery shop today for all the crowd coming this weekend. Celebrating son’s 42 birthday. I can’t be that old!

Buppies, update on the leg and keep healing.
Prayers for the lot of us.

Can't sleep so I just got up. HVAC guy was here yesterday and said hat I have a hole in the coil of the 15 year old air handler in the attic. Need a new unit. Guy put 6 lb of R22 in the unit

6 pounds is a lot. I had to replace the coil in my attic last year after only 7 years. It had rusted away.

66 going to 85, and chance of more t-storms...yesterday evening's storm was quite the classic...dark, almost black western sky with crazy clouds and winds bending the trees over...changing to a downpour and much localized lightning...used WeatherBug Spark to watch the lightning hits while out on the porch...until one hit a couple of hundred yards away and I went inside. Got another 0.74 inches...ground soggy again...makes my to-do list one without any heavy equipment today.

Ed, sorry about your dreams going into your HVAC repair...hopefully Randy can help. (Randy, I need a '67 Mustang :))

I've never owned an air compressor...looked at one at Harbor Freight yesterday...the usual sale price plus $30 coupon...couldn't quite pull the trigger on buying it...seems like whenever I spend over $100 I feel the need to research. l'll check the other forums, but if anybody has a recommendation of oil vs. oil-less, or brand they like or should avoid, or minimum flow to power a medium impact wrench, I'd love to hear it.

Buppies, hope your healing.

Don, I forgot how nice your keyhole garden looks after seeing pics last year...is that rebar and chicken wire holding those rocks? I saw a big sun shade sail thingee at Costco this week and made we wonder if the pool grand opening had occurred.

Yes it is chicken wire. It held the stones together while the motor dried.

About the pool opening, it is not going to happen this year. We are making changes. Not to worry it's all positive.

Good morning! 74 partly cloudy. Got the yard mowed yesterday and got wet from a brief shower but no dust. I'll only have to mow it one maybe two more times this summer.

Mine had a tiny leak after 7 years and 2 months. It was replaced under warranty a couple of months ago.

Good morning!
Hot and humid again today. I hope the AC guys come this afternoon as they promised. The trouble with my heat pump is a little beyond my capability to fix. I think I can still fix it but have no time to figure it out with so many things going on. It seems to be the pattern of most everything in my life of late. I can fix the house, the AC, the cars, the tractor but can't do them all so I pick and choose what I'll do and what I'll get someone to help.
Last night flounder stuffed with crawfish was delicious :)
Lots and lots of house clean up to do to prepare for a large group visit to my house. We have 17 guests coming.

Wow. That looks so good. Right now I have several layer of card board. Plan to add about 30 cubic feet of composted cow manure. Then 15 cubic feet of top soil then mulch on top before I plant. I'll have to think about the straw top. I think I'll need it as well.

Sounds like a good plan. I have never seen a keyhole garden that large.
I put the cow manure, finely chopped wood chips, and leaves in the compost pile and after a year add them to the keyhole garden. I also add some cottonseed meal to heat up the compost. Do not add un-composted cottonseed meal to the garden or the coons will be attracted to the smell and start digging.

Was it a Carrier? Did the warranty also cover labor?

Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 5:30AM. Partly cloudy. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 74F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Sorry to hear about the AC, Ed. Life is seldom fair, is it?

Finished mowing yesterday, but from the looks of the first area done a week ago, there are spots that may need it again. Taking out the grass revealed a lot of yellow star thistle, which now has perfect access to the sunshine. Fortunately Tractor Supply has a sale on glyphosate this weekend, 'cause I'm gonna need a lot of it...

Rode the touring bike into town to pick up some bolts for the fender swap on the trailer, and to get the engine hot enough to balance the carbs after the repair. It started easily and ran well, better than before, so maybe that issues has been resolved. Fingers crossed; today's trip will tell.

Buyer of the motorcycle finally made final payment, but now wants me to email scanned copies of all the recall notices and repair receipts before he can import into Canada. That BS is why I specifically excluded non-US buyers from the sale, but somehow he found a way around. Very tempted to cancel the whole thing and just keep the machine at this point. Headed out of town for a couple of days, and will just deal with the nonsense then.

Happy Hump Day, folks!

I'll take a 67 chevelle, in good running shape....

Storms came thru yesterday..

Thomas, we have an English muffin bakery in town.

Ed, sorry about the AC.

I have a hybrid heatpump/electric water heater. HP stopped working about a yr out of warranty. Coil corroded and leaked. They fixed it on warranty, was a known issue. HP has since stopped working again. Doubt if they will fix again. Just use the electric now.

I've signed up with the local electric company to receive wood chips whenever they are doing trimming in the area. This way I'll have lots of compost material. I am also talking to a nearby stable to get their rice hull & horse manure compost. All that is in the future. As for coons and coyotes, we used to have tons of them around, as a matter of fact one coon used to poop at my front door every night until I caught him with my 22 and fed him to the gator in the pond. However, ever since my neighbor moved in with his catahoulas, I no longer have any coons around me. Those catahoulas killed/chased all the coons & coyotes from our neighborhood.

For the keyhole size, the size was simply a convenient length for the lumber I had. Good thing I'm still able to reach across all the section, barely though :)

Was it a Carrier? Did the warranty also cover labor?

It's a Goodman, and A#1 Air installed it initially to replace a Rheem unit that was in the house when we bought it. Now perhaps I'm wasting a little money, but I pay A#1 Air $12.50 a month (they just charge it on one of my credit cards) and they call me, instead of me calling them, twice a year to schedule a checkup. So yes, their warranty covers labor, too, and we had a 10 year warranty. Now of course, they still made some money on the job because I had them replace the old monstrous air filter system, housing and all, and they added an additional air return.

Sorry Wngsprd and BEF, no spare 67s.
Never owned a Mustang but I did have a 67 SS 396 around a hundred years ago.

66°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 87° today.

Frustrating about the misinformation about the volcano, David. Sadly, the media can tell us anything they want about Hawaii and 99.9% of us just don't know any better. They do like to focus on the spectacular ... whether true or not.

Wngsprd, I had one of the oil-less HF compressors for many years. For light duty stuff, they work fine. Depends on what you need it for, I guess. You might browse through the HF Tools That Don't Suck thread, and maybe ask over there. Plenty of opinions to be harvested from that thread.

Looks like 38* for the low this morning, we had a couple of good showers yesterday, it was in the mid 50's for a high. It looks like a 40% chance of more rain today with a high in the upper 60's. The up coming holiday weekend looks good for Friday and Saturday with more storms for rest of the weekend.

Don't have any plans for today. I'm sure I'll find something that needs done.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.
