Good morning!!!!

Bird, we saw it on the news, they thought one coyote was responsible, but now they think it might be a pack with one at a time attacking. Basically a learned behavior.

/ Good morning!!!! #86,762
That has happened here with dingoes, always thought not to attack humans but have become more frequent over the past 30 years or so.

Dogs are social animals and smart. Feral dogs even more so. They appear to be very efficient at strategy and plan implementation to get their "protein.". I occasionally find weird scavenged stuff here... could it be chum? and for whom?

HVAC technician was here today to replace some failing components. He found some more failing/failed components today. He'll be back tomorrow. Apparently the "mammal safe" antifreeze used is highly corrosive. A necessary costly evil here due to location and home design (bulkhead crawlspace). :(

HVAC tech here today, too...returned from last week...thought all it would take is replacing two valve cores like in a tire valve stem (but having to recover all the old "freon" and then adding back new refrigerant). Still not working correctly, so will come back again to replace the expansion valve...a more complicated task and part on order :( .

Ouch, sorry.

At least the system here is still operational. Interestingly my expansion valve failed as well? I have my "free" mini-split system, a wood stove, and passive solar; but my propane central heat failed last season due to freeze up and had to replace a zone. I actually have replacement parts here "just in case." And there is always the part that one does not have that fails.

Hadn't heard about that, Bird. Getting ready to go out and close up the feather butts for the night, and you can be sure I'll be armed.

My day took a sudden turn - for the good.
Shortly after making my previous post I got a call from Whitecap that my acid stain was in.
Went to town and picked it up. Just couldn’t waste such a gorgeous day. Just a bit over 2.5 hours and 14 gallons applied. Neutralize tomorrow and hopefully seal on Sat. And that job will be done 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
A very blessed day.

Someone's on acid again.

Good evening all. 34F for the start, 1 inch in the rain gauge, rain falling, calm to light wind. rained most of the day, about 1/2 inch additional rain, high temp 38F. There was a chance of some snow but that is pretty much gone now. Warm up starts tomorrow. Ran the wood insert again today, caught up with this thread, not much else.
Drew sorry to hear about your friend, prayer sent.
David if you are still thinking about acid after the treatment is done you do have a problem:D;)
Was taught a similar technique for rabbits, except used nails on a tree to hold the rabbit.
prayers for all.

Still raining, 1.5" since midnight, and no snow or ice, 34 ˚F.

I just got the "Call"!! I've been promoted from trail maintenance to trail development in the Elderland Hiking Club. Woohoo!

TrailBoss!!!

I laid down for a short 'power nap' at 11:30 A.M. I got up at 3:30 P.M. Some power nap!

The temp here went a l l the way up to 7F, today.

Some nap. :) Rip Van Winkle (I would nap too at those temps)

Don, 4" tree. Why cut it down. Just push it over.
I agree, then chop it up.

24°F and crystal clear skies this morning, going up to 44° today. The sliver of moon, stars, and planets seemed like they were all glowing a little extra bright this morning.

Worked some more on the guitar body last night, adding some contours for the arm and belly. Wife went to Granite City to visit her niece (teaching her to crochet), so it was just me and the fuzzy butts. Quiet time ... except for the light jazz playing in the background.

The 'yotes around us don't generally get too close, riptides. I did hear one growling from the woods across the road one night a couple years ago while taking out the trash. I was unarmed that night as well, but haven't made that mistake again. Flashlight and revolver go with me any time I have to walk away from the house at night.

We have coyotes, but usually when I hear them, they are some distance away on a cold night. I'm afraid for our little dog when she has to go outside.

Chicken count is still holding at 2 hens. They are laying all the eggs we need. I intend to buy a few more hen chicks in March. The good thing about having only 2 hens is, there is not a lot of hen pecking going on. The pecking order is minimized. :)

RNG, welcome home. Even if there is a tree in your drive.....

Drew, my cancer prayer list (besides praying for all cancer patients) is up to 6 people I know. I hate cancer.

Prayers for all, and for cures for cancer, and for healing.

The thermometer said -3C/26F when I looked at 8am and even more reliably, the weather bucket had a fair solid topping of ice when I gave it a kick, so it's a good oppertunity to make use of solid ground to move some hay bales over to my neighbour and get a few down for myself.

I don't know much about American red squirrels, they are different animals to those found in Europe. Reds are much rarer here, it would be illegal to kill one, though most people wouldn't want to anyway.

Greys are a different story. Since they were introduced in 1870 they have gradually driven out reds from most places apart from Scotland and a few isolated pockets. Males make widow-maker branches by stripping bark from mature trees and are also starting to kill the younger trees I have planted. They can wreck havoc in houses too if one of them gets into a loft space. We can't eliminate them, at best it's a case of keeping the numbers down to minimise the damage. Are they better behaved in their home country ?

wet weather coming in, will rain until late tonight then clear up for weekend.
51 out not going up much.
An inside day, chase the laundry, maybe continue to work cleaning up second floor.
David, congrats, sure going to look nice.

Hope you all have a nice day.

30 and going to a high of 36°F. Wind W 15 gusting to 29 mph. Snow in the forecast.

They are attempting to tell me 5 cm (2"), but I don't believe them. I know for a fact that we've already got 4" on the ground since the last time I plowed. I will be plowing today and plowing is the only thing on my plate.

Boy are my sleep patterns all messed up. I was so tired last evening at 6:30 P.M. that I fell asleep watching a youtube vid. So at 7 P.M. I went to bed. Got up at midnight for a p and went back to bed. I got up for the duration of the day at 3 A.M.

IF it takes 14 gallons of acid for someone to be happy, then either they have a 'problem' or it is really bad acid. Maybe you had better try the purple stuff, I think it was better 'back in the day'.

Have a good day all

Drinking first cup of coffee. 29ー with clear skies this morning. Heading to a very sunny 46ー. Got a Dr appointment this morning. The PT. Hope to get electrical box mounted and wired for my last outdoor camera this afternoon. Dr appointment yesterday went well. Continue with PT.

We have coyotes here. But have not seen them near house. Need to pull card from trail cam and see what has been at bird feeder at night.

David, glad your acid project is coming to an end. :D

Prayers for all those in need.

Good Morning All.

My sleep pattern has been screwed up all my life. 5 hours sleep is enough most nights. But hitting the sack between 7 and 8 pm is common. Nowadays my 5 hours of sleep gets interrupted by a need to take a P. Makes me wake up at 2 am. I force myself to stay in bed until 4 am reading or watching TV. My relatives from my mother's side of family all complain about similar sleep habits. My cousin calls it the curse of the Mortiers. My mothers maiden name.

Our system is operational, but uses the auxiliary electric strip most of the time, which uses much more electricity than the underground loop. We are burning our woodstove, too.
