Up and about in beautiful downtown Hartford CT...

19 here..high today in the mid-30's...a far cry from Bethel where it's 3 degrees with a high of about 20 today.

The training is pretty boring...3 more days...

If the forecast holds true, we have a pretty significant snow event coming in on the weekend

Here it is, can you figure out what it is? I can't. Those paddles should be a clue.

Mind blowing that, so many years ago, a forward thinking young man went to his agricultural dealer for some advice and said "I'd like to but a great Avatar for my future grandson - what do you suggest ?"

:)

Good morning. 20F here now and headed to 37 with some sun today.

Roy- I remember those out of town trips for “required” training. I could not get home quick enough.

Everyone be safe.

I remember those trips out of town. I was the instructor. Hope I was not boring. Video's were the most boring. Best classes were hands on. Most boring part of my job was making class outlines.

Up and about in beautiful downtown Hartford CT...

speaking of instructing, spent a year there teaching insurance to trainees in Traveler' Education Center in Hartford.
First time I saw what happened being in a city at end of work day. Travelers, Aetna, several other insurance companies all got out at the same time.
The sidewalks were simply packed liked cattle as folks tried to get to their parking garages. I learned early to just let them all go and leave fifteen minutes later. I remember a lot of snow there too, bought my first fwd car, a Renault R5. Fun to drive but a terrible car overall, slab sided and super lightweight, blown all over rt 91 by trucks. Next car was a relatively tank like Chevy Nova, late 70's. four door, dark blue, rally wheels, 305 and automatic. I had at least three guys who wanted that car when I was done. Sure would be worth way more than I paid for it now.

colder 26 out now, only 45 in garden shed, need to go turn the heat up in there. Can't wait for bigger heater coming in tomorrow.
As the propane company delivered another load yesterday to keep my tank topped off.

hope you all have a nice day. Stay vertical on that snow.

Ron, thanks for naming the avatar. I'll ask my mom if she remembers it being used.
Drew I'm sure that's just what grandpa asked for. Too bad he did not know about a plant based diet and heart disease - he died at 67 from heart disease when I was a young teen. He had a JD but he still had his big black horse also that he used like we use a golf cart.
Eric, the contrail looks like it is matching the shape of the hay bales.
Buppies thanks for the heads up.

Good morning! 44˚, heading to the "Barn" this morning to put in the time maintaining the clubs power equipment (riding mowers, the gator and tillers) Our SIG leader said he would have oil and filters for most everything except the tractor. The tractor just had it's 400 hour service about 30 hours ago.

I'll try to get a pic of the sticking sliding door and see if there are any recommendations on how to repair it.

of all the cars you've owned, which one would you like back in your "spare" garage right now?
Not for money or profit, but just the one that made you feel the best and was the most fun to drive.

A runner up for me was a Peugeot 403 sedan, cream colored, four speed on column (how cool was that?), sunroof, long before the American cars,
and the piece de resistance, a fully reclinable front seat arrangement where both seats made a bed.
Now that was discovered one night in high school to my utter delight.
Alas, the girl was wild but I was not...smart enough to know without "protection" this was super dangerous.
Sure fogged up the windows though. :D
ah the memories we made when we were young in cars.

For a pretty long time I owned a Lesabre Limited, being in insurance I was a Buick guy, very stereotyped..., which was medium dark metallic green, with a green velour interior that was not horrible or tacky, but really nice and low key, soft to sit in, just a big living room couch.
Of course one drove sedately on a couch, but that was the whole idea. 4 guys were on a list for that one (small town, not many car dealerships nearby), traded it in on, and almost hard to admit this now, but hey, we were all young...a Grand Prix with a huge nose, a hood ten feet long, scarlet glittery red with eye opening velour bucket seat interior. Now that would make me cringe today...
But I sure would like to take Toppop for a ride in it, we'd have a good laugh.

Pressing those big chrome metal buttons on the radio.
I think the Buick was the first year they put a digital speedometer in the center of the dash.
I bet those digital speedometers have saved a lot of speeding tickets since.
You look at those old speedometers and it takes a full second or two to focus on "where is it?" meanwhile you aren't watching the road which
clearly is more important.

Our cars really are safer now.
Just wish you could get a cloth interior in the nicer models.
but maybe not velours...
Toyota's most expensive car, which we can't get here in the US, has wool cloth seats. Now we're talking...
Not very kid or dog proof I bet.

2by2 yamaha utility cart with trailer but with new lithium battery pack and AWD.

Drew that reminds me of the tragedy that happened yesterday morning.
While my wife was sitting on the new couch with her cat (gray2) and a cup of coffee, gray two had an unexpected barfing episode and my wife spilled her coffee on the couch. everything cleaned up perfectly because the couch is made of olefin fiber.

Good Morning!!!! 50F @ 4:45AM. Rain showers early will evolve into a more steady rain for the afternoon. High 47F. Winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall near a quarter of an inch.

Somewhere out there, Don, there's probably a picture of someone's grandpa on one of those showing it in use, but I doubt the grandpa is still with us to tell the whole story. I tried submitting the image to goole to look for a match, but all it came up with was "rural area":confused2: Is there a thread here on TBN for asking such questions?

Beautiful blue sky, Eric. When I lived in Ohio, winters seemed like they'd never end and there were stretches where I didn't see the sun for months. A day like that could be very therapeutic!

Wng, that tooth is one of those adult situations that are a lot better when they're over. Hope it goes smoothly for you.

The satellite tech replaced the arm holding on the pickup and realigned the dish yesterday, and now the signal is stronger than I've ever seen it. Perhaps it won't drop out as much as it was when the big rains start tomorrow? He also mentioned that the modem seemed to be acting up, and that replacements for that model are no longer available. That could mean I'd be forced into a new "plan" with lower data caps and a new two year commitment. Touched base with the neighbor that said he was looking into a WiMax setup, but now he sez that's on the back burner for some reason. And still no word from Verizon on the trouble ticket that was submitted asking for a compass bearing to use when aligning the yagi antenna for the cell phone booster. All this high tech stuff is great, until it isn't...

While I was waiting I got the zipper ripped out of the electrically heated jacket I use on the motorcycles, and got one side sewn back in. Managed to avoid sticking myself, but I'm left with renewed respect for the skills of those that really know how to run a sewing machine!

It was too nice a day to waste inside, so I got some seat time moving wood and downed trees to clear a spot for a new burn pile. On the way up the driveway to pick up the mail, I again noticed what looked to be a fairly level area downhill, so on the way back I stopped and went exploring. I found a fairly good sized bench of moderate slope down there, along with many downed oaks and manzanitas. One oak had been completely burned, leaving only holes where the roots used to be and a linear mound of ash where the trunk fell. I'd never been down there because of all the poison oak that used to grow there, and that will certainly come back in not too long, but with some tractor work, I could end up with a spot to exercise with the rifles and pistols. I also started a count of the burned and down trees, and between a ride in the side-by-side and more walking, came up with about thirty oaks and forty manzanitas that were either down or totally burned. Some of the manzanitas still standing were over twenty feet high; I never knew they could get that big!

I also moved the big touring bike onto the motorcycle lift for some maintenance work. I was hoping to use the little Harbor Freight winch I have mounted to it to pull the bike backwards up the ramp, but the remote control for the winch wasn't working. A new battery was no help, and the hard wired switch only worked in one direction. I think I've found another Harbor Freight tool that sux, one that breaks even without any use:eek:.

For me, that car should have been the '03 five series BMW with the little V8 engine, but it spent so much time at the dealers being repaired it put me off cars entirely. I really like my '00 F250 with the 7.3L Powerstroke, but I still have it. The one that got away that I wish I still had wasn't a car at all, but a lemon yellow Norton Commando Fastback. It was more reliable than that BMW car ever was, and only let me down once, but the power and handling were magic on a mountain road.

And we have our own expert here

Have a stack of clothes that need buttons sewn back on. I wish there was a little handheld machine for that.

Big rush is over, time to head downtown. Will probably drive the whole way and not get behind another car.
Marvelous.

maybe a good idea that not all of them grow back RNG...
hope you get lots of firewood unless it's all a black sooty mess. Rains should have helped there.

I really miss my 1955 Packard Clipper Super Panama. Black over yellow.

I don稚 sew on buttons with a sewing machine, but I do know how to operate it.

As for favorite car, I’ve owned just over 140 vehicles and picking one is hard, but the 68 Firebird 400 H.O. 4 speed, In rare Autumn bronze that I bought from my brother, who bought it new, would be one of them. It looked just like this one except mine had hood mounted tach.

15° early, 29° now, 40 later. 40s this week, then Sunday is supposed to be56 in the morning, 30 by dark and around 10 overnight, with 20s on Monday. After that some data says back to normal, some say a deep freeze for two weeks.

Ron you did it again, thanks.

As for the car, got home from Nam and bought a 68 TR4A IRS brand new Jan 69, original nylons lasted 3,000 miles, at least ten grins per mile, then there was the 59 CJ5 with the small block, Super T10, and new clutches every 1000 miles or so, got where I could do a clutch in about three hours by myself. 79 chevy van with the four speed on the column, got the Saginaw 4 speed installed and looked over and the original 3 speed linkage was hanging there, bolted it up, four speed on the column, drilled hole in floor and reverse had its own lever, perfect anti-theft device too. 69 chevy one ton welding truck with a small block that would light up the dualies on command, 4 miles per gallon and gazillion grins. Now I知 stuck with a 2002 C3500HD flatbed, the one with the 19.5 tires and 496 cu in motor, 90,000 miles. Various camaros, firebirds, and novas that got a new lease on fun living as dirt track cars in California and Texas.

70 and still loving it when the butt comes around and over steer is 徹h Dear!!!
