One of the fellas that organizes the Airhead campout over the New Year weekend down at Anza-Borrego is also a beer home brewer. He usually brings at least two five gallon kegs each year, and this time around he's asked me to pick a recipe that he'll use to make one of them. He's also offered to get me started brewing, and that might be just the excuse to run down to SoCal and help him make it.:drink:

I did some home brewing for a few years back in the early '90s. I have to say, it's a very satisfying hobby. The smell during fermentation is just awful, but it's worth it when the end result is crossing your lips, and you made it. I mostly made American ales, and they turned out very good. I once got my hands on some fresh Michelob hops, and the result was a beer you couldn't tell the difference from the branded one. I had a lot of fun brewing, and I suspect you might enjoy it as well.

The Complete Joy of Homebrewing by Charlie Papazian is a very valuable book for a noob.

Good Morning Everyone!!!!

An overcast 51ºF for today’s low; a cloudy 61ºF presently; and I anticipate a cloudy afternoon with high temp ~70ºF. I actually got some restful sleep :D. Maybe I finally learned my lesson about letting even PowerService product(s) amended diesel fuel sit too long idle in the tank; I was never a fan of ULSD (many, many past rant posts on TBN), but it was my negligence by neglect that caused this. This has happened often enough that I have an established SOP for removing water from the fuel system. I do have some tractor related projects planned to give me seat time into the Winter:cool:. I have an outdoor disrobing SOP well learned due to past work-related scabies management and control measures.

I think that I made the last batch of hummingbird food for the season today.

BEF- I am sorry to read about your continued neuropathic pain. It’s almost always worst at night when one cannot distract oneself through activity. I hope you and the docs figure out what is driving this and find an effective treatment. It’s a win-lose situation with the +’s of physical activity resulting in the -’s of neuropathy. Most meds prescribed to address my neuropathy really messed with my verbal self-control, concentration like basic math calculations (really  me), fine eye-hand motor control, and sense of balance.

Drew- Good luck on the start of your “Great Adventure.”

I wrote the BoSox off early in the season after Sales pitched a 13 strikeout (?) game and the BoSox still blew it. I probably follow college football more than professional sports entertainment.

My daily + thoughts for Kyle, RonJH, BEF, Randy, and Ted and your challenges.

Rick- I agree. Our military and first responders are grossly under-appreciated. It’s great that they got the 4th guy out alive.:D Sometimes it seems that civilian appreciation is exhibited only after there is a casualty in the ranks. I will not forget the sacrifices made by others (like some here) to help keep me safe and free.

The general public's current fascination with plant based "meat products" is less than a + reflection on where consumers are "at." That foodstuff is as bad and/or worse than the "real" meat it is supposed to replace. And those meat-like burgers at BurgerKing are still cooked on those beef/chicken greased grills which probably adds to the grease factor and flavor

I hope that everyone is having a decent and manageable day and those healing and mending continue to heal and mend without pain.

The Cardinals are a roller coaster again this year. Horrible first half, but turning it on now and likely to win the division ... which is really no great accomplishment in the NL Central this year. MLS recently announced a new expansion team for St. Louis. I used to enjoy watching soccer when I was growing up. Lately, though, professional soccer is unwatchable to me. Some of these guys will go down if the wind changes direction, and writhe around like their leg has been amputated. Fortunately for them, referees carry those magic little colored cards in their pockets that, when held aloft, instantly cure all manner of unbearable injuries.

For my sports fix, I'm glad hockey season is about to start.

Paul- All the "drama" and the "divas" w/i professional "sports" entertainment is a real turnoff for me, and college football is starting down that slippery slope as well.:( Now it seems that the really successful college football athletes have a really short academic resume and a really, really long rap sheet in their "sports" portfolio to bring to professional sports. Fortunately there are still a few players in the professional leagues that serve as + role models.

My Wife is a bigger sports fan than I. I do not have the attention span.

2 buckets potatoes on the first row is double last yrs production per row. Only had 2.5 buckets total last yr for 3 rows, have 4 rows this yr. Most of 1st row were red, with whites at the end. Whites are smaller than the reds, so probably production will drop... 0910191042a.jpeg
Showed her the post, she said I look like a farmers wife. I said, you are.

Pt and OT were here together this morning and they are about to cut me loose. I’ve exceeded my goals so I get re-evaluated Friday and discharged next week.

The hummingbirds that are left here are big ones, the smaller ones have all gone, but there are still quite a few.

The chili rellenos sound good, I like to pour some chunky salsa over them.

Will watch the Apple event as i have my coffee this morning, not that I’m planning any upgrades.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

After getting the old deck torn out, I am having trouble getting started on the new deck.. it should go well once I get started. I'm having reasonable success with massage therapy for my back pain, yesterday was told that I need to get more appt scheduled, that I am too far apart to have lasting results. Also my hips are not even so need to see chiropractor for that. I scheduled several massage and a chiropractor appt to see how it works out. We have been getting some rain which we need, but the farmers working on finishing harvest are not happy.

I found breaking it up into very small jobs and just concentrating on getting one small job done a day it's easier to get started. It's like getting ready to get ready to start.

The older I get the smaller the sub-task becomes.:embarrassed: and the longer it takes till task completion; but the satisfaction feels just as good.:D

The humidity has been rising all day to the point of misting. Rising dew points = A/C probably tonight. It will be HHH weather here tomorrow.

Next task: go to bed

That's about it

well I made it, but a day that was way too long and had too many bumps.
Young guy doing the training didn't know any more than I knew, which is fine for the stuff that's the same from rv to rv.
But when I start asking the stuff I don't know:
how does the mobileye accident avoidance system work?
I don't know, that's new.
Does this come with Sirius/XM?
I don't know, it should
How do you get to the nav part of the radio?
I can't find it.

At that point I found my salesperson, gently said the trainer wasn't helpful to me because he understood none of the electronics,
which is what a young person is supposed to know, right?...
So it turns out there is no navigation in the rv at all. Wrong radio allegedly installed at factory. Thankfully they had the right one in stock.
Now it's noon, I was supposed to be gone by then, owner not happy, gives me keys to loaner and 20 bucks and said please go have lunch on us.
Nice ride in a tiny beater Fiesta with 103k miles on it and a hole in the muffler. This was not a Lexus moment...
So thankfully the new radio works, and the trainer has zero idea what the icons do, quote from the owner "this stuff just all changed and it's all new
to us". Well, maybe that's true and maybe they need to do a better job of training the trainer.

I admit my humor was fouled from the very beginning when I popped the hood to the engine compartment and was a bit ticked off to find half an inch of grime over everything, must have driven here from Indiana in a rain storm, and two large piles of squirrel nuts stacked up around the hood latches. Clearly no one in the dealership had ever opened the hood. I looked at the trainer and just shook my head and quietly said this should not be. And left it at that. And it was still dirty when I drove out of there.
It will be cleaned tomorrow.

these were really nice people at D&H RV in Apex NC. But nice doesn't cut it enough if your business practices are sloppy.
I kept waiting to be impressed, and sure wasn't.

Ok, that's done, off my chest. Ride home was fine, very maneuverable, but much, much noiser than I thought. Lots of wind and tire noise.
Part may be due to my tinnitus, but I bet it quiets down a bunch when the new Michelins go on, oem tires are awful.
Engine had plenty of power, just had to ride the torque wave, picked up speed nicely. I drove between 65 and 70 on mostly 70mph roads, you could tell the faster you went the more you had to really keep your foot in it. Cruise control worked nicely, just wish Germans would not put it on a separate stalk that's close to turn signal.

oh, when I got it home the auto leveling system seemed to work, but error coded saying excess slope, which is absurd, look at the picture, maybe one degree, and it picked the front tires an inch totally off the ground and the rears over two inches off the ground. So I will fiddle with that tomorrow. Doesn't seem very stable perched up on those stork legs.
Outside looks nice, the plastic finish was well done.

time for dinner and an early bed. Will be less grumpy tomorrow.

Good you got'er done, Drew, but your experience reinforces the belief that customer service is a dying art in this country.

Curious to see if you have some new dents in your asphalt in the morning.

Nice pic; now we know what to look for when you roll by on your upcoming adventure!

I could use a recommendation for a preemergent herbicide.

Do granules last longer than liquid sprays?

When I used one called Barrier last winter, it did a good job of killing the weeds, but it didn't last six weeks. What came back were broad leaf weeds, none of the grasses reappeared. Not what I was expecting...

Sorry, I'm in bed...

3rd row potatoes only 1/2 a bucket. These and final row were the store bought seed potatoes, the good rows were my leftovers from last year.

Jay I can remember as a young boy my grandfather sitting in his 62 Dodge parked in the driveway because that was the only way he could listen to the Sunday Red Sox game. Being a big fan or the Sox he took my brothers and I to a Yankee Red Sox game at Yankee stadium on bat day. Needless to say after coming home with a Mickey Mantle bat I have been a Yankee fan since.
Randy good to hear your being discharged as your determination has you ahead of schedule. But remember to still pace yourself.
BEF don't over work your farmers wife, or she will want to climb on your tractor and have you do the laundry.
LS I have a cousin who 40 years ago followed his dreams headed west to be a cowboy did some rodeo roping and ended up needing new knees. Long story short he kept putting it off and just finally had the first one done he hasn't completed PT for that one and he is driving his Dr crazy to get the second one done because the new one feels so much better.
Drew sounds like you had a long day but the RV is looking good in your driveway. I bet your driver this morning enjoyed the muffin.

Curious to see if you have some new dents in your asphalt in the morning.

Me too. Went out and retracted them, thankfully no dents at all, but put some
plastic mats under them anyway, made for rv's
Service mgr left a message for me, thinks system has to be "zeroed out" like resetting a scale
I assume.
Which begs the question as to why they didn't zero it out before they sold it to me. One more system they didn't check over like
they promised.
I'll be on the phone with them tomorrow morning and they said they would talk me through it. Control Alt Delete

Your concerns over the pavement are very real to me. With my first motorhome,
I put two nice dimples in my closest friend's freshly paved driveway, both of us remembered too late to put
the protectors down. Of course his pavement was a couple months old and mine is four years old,
but on a hot day, for sure it must soften.
I appreciate the reminder.

I bet your driver this morning enjoyed the muffin.
she did! and sent me a thank you email for the tupperware container of the marvelous
orangey muffins. Nice to eat a muffin where the residual is not sugary sweetness
but a tart orange flavor
I'm thankful she got my car back in one piece...

Congrats on the RV Drew, looks really nice, love the color scheme! Sorry that the customer service wasn't up to par.
