My Dad didn't serve overseas. He was a 'gun plumber' in the R.C.A.F,. stationed at Baggottville, Quebec.

My Uncle ( Dads brother) tried to get into the air force, but they wouldn't take him because he was honest and told them he'd had scarlet fever. The next day he went to the Army recruiter and lied. He was in the tank corps and in Europe somewhere. He never talked about the war. He is dead now and that just makes it harder to track down his whereabouts while in the war.

Mum worked for DeHaviland aircraft in Toronto, Ontario. She was a riveter.

I know a couple of women that worked for Dominion Industries, later to become CIL industries, in Ajax, Ontario. They made ****.

^^^^^^ Everyone did their part..... Everyone sacrificed. Each in his/her own way helped win the War.

My Father memorized the eye chart to enlist successfully. He was not alone.

As I understand the usual European tank encounters, it was usually a 3:1 loss:kill ratio when Allied tanks met German. In close and crowded with the German long guns encumbered by obstacles the Sherman tanks were superior. The Allies still usually needed due to German armor, a rear shot or bounced round underneath. It was also volatile gas vs German diesel. It did not help to have those nice pretty white stars on the front of our Sherman tanks (in the beginning).

We won War II despite ourselves...... And look at which countries now are some of our best Allies.

I'm glad I cleaned up that two inches of snow in the drive today as it is looking like Friday it will be 39f out. That would have ruined all my fun of using the tractor.

Proves that whole put off today what you can do tomorrow thing as rubbish!

Good evening all. Don pushed you down 1 more on the list as it was 12F for the start here, wonder why Bird was so cold. Some clouds and light wind. High temp was 41F, wind stayed light and sky cleared off.
WBS duty today, Men's meeting this morning, then go pick up two free ink cartridges for printer, and coordinate felling a tree for firewood.

Still cold as a polar bear's nose here to me...

Took off yesterday due to icy conditions.

Don, I noticed more ice on the roads here in Giddings than in Lincoln, and as I headed towards Dime Box, the ice just disappeared all the way to College Station.

Grandfather was in the 4th Infantry Division. IIRC, he was assigned to the Patton group that "rescued/relieved" the Bulge guys. His vehicle road over a mine and he got shrapnel to his legs. They patched him up and kept going.

Hey, that happened to my Dad in a Jeep! Jeep went one way, he went the other. Landed on his feet, running. Stopped pretty quick once he calmed down a bit and realized he was in a mine field. LOL - not a scratch on him!

Dad saw patton once. Said patton took all their fuel for his tanks. Lol

What a morning……

8:00 I made a snowman.

8:10 A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn’t make a snow woman.

8:15 So, I made a snow woman.

8:17 The nanny of the neighbors complained about the snow woman's voluptuous chest.

8:20 The gay couple living nearby grumbled that it could have been two snowmen instead.

8:25 The vegans at No. 12 complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.

8:28 I am being called a racist because the snow couple is white.

8:31 The Muslim gent across the road wants the snow woman to wear a headscarf.

8:40 Someone calls the cops who show up to see what’s going on.

8:42 I am told that the broomstick of the snowman needs to be removed because it could be used as a deadly weapon. Things get worse after I mutter : "Yeah, if it's up your a***"

8:52 My phone is seized and thoroughly checked while I am being blindfolded and flown to the police station in a helicopter.

9:00 I'm on the news as a suspected terrorist bent on stirring up trouble during this difficult weather.

9:10 I am asked if I have any accomplices.

9:29 A little known jihadist group has claimed it was their plot.

Moral: When it's this cold, stay inside.

5 degrees right now...high in the upper 20's today.

Cleaned up the drive, walks and cul-de-sac last night after yesterday's snow. Wasn't that much snow (3-4 inches locally, more south (I work 50 miles south)), but boy! was it slick! Going to work wasn't too bad since when I drive south, there's not much traffic. Coming home...although not real heavy traffic, I counted 5 vehicles off the road including a pickup truck on it's roof.
