Smoke continues today, unhealthy to outdoors.

My nephew and family live in N/E Redding California, and all the family is worried about them inhaling all that stuff.
Doesn't seem like they have this fire controlled at all, every day is another record size statement.

RNG, how are you doing with the smoke? If you go inside, are you really getting away from all of it?
what about chemicals in the air, the invisible nasty stuff?

Ron, I'm wondering if the cutters couldn't be sharpened with a stone. As I recall, they're just rectangular blocks of steel into which teeth are cut to form the threads, and honing the edges should restore sharpness. You'd have to be careful to take the same amount off each cutter, but a pair of mics would keep you on track there. Food for thought...
They can be sharpened. I got a Delta wet grinder off EBAY last week. This will be my first sharpening with it.

PJ, are you going to be able to go see the golf game?

No. I may watch some of it on TV, but probably not. With it being a four day tournament, tickets aren't actually that hard to get. I wouldn't mind going to watch in person these guys who can hit the ball a country mile, but I've never been to a pro golf tournament. I'm not terribly big on giant crowd events. People in large numbers like that tend to be ... well, rude. My boss has been at the practice rounds this week, and said he watched Tiger Woods on the nearly 600 yard 17th overshoot the green on his second shot. I can't even imagine.

It's to the point that I can't even smell smoke anymore, it's been around so long. Some days it's light enough for the sun to cast a shadow, other days it's a gray overcast with a white haze extending to the horizon. I'm coughing more than usual, and my eyes itch, and that's with just being inside the garage and home. I'm sure there is air being exchanged when I run the A/C, no way I can tell to prevent it. I probably get more exposure to chemicals and other bad actors just working on the motorcycles than anything in the air. I sure wouldn't want to be on the fire lines. They don't pay those people nearly enough for what they do!

These were taken about an hour before sunset a few days ago. Not much has changed since then, and now "they" are saying that it will keep burning through the end of August. The can't put it out, and we won't get any rain until mid September at the earliest. All they can do is cut a fire line through a low fuels area and set fire to whatever is between the fire and the line. Most of the smoke we're seeing on the Carr fire is caused by these back fires. Haven't been following the River and Ranch Fires to the southeast, but the tactics are the same nationwide.

I知 amazed at the talent level of the people on this forum, the number of things that each of us can do well is mind blowing. Compare that to the people that can稚 put a spark plug in their mower and the contrast is astounding.

What is a spark plug? LOL.

well said Bird!
under that big plastic cover somewhere...

boy did I get caught out on the tractor in a downpour, not even forecast, here I was thinking gosh those clouds are nice to keep the temps down.
After the first splat on the hood of the Massey while out bush hogging a field, by the time I got to the end of the field no question time to head back to the barn.
On the way the tractor got washed, I got washed, just about everything got washed. Joys of an open tractor with no roof...
1.2 inches in 35 minutes. Whoosh. Sun is out now of course, and the humidity is plain awful.
Not going out there again today. Well maybe after dinner to pick some okra.

first I mowed the field area near the house with the finishing mower, simply because it was something I could do in a/c plus I needed to watch the burn pile.
Having an ice coffee and eating an orange, and plan on not moving an inch.

Is the guy doing your Van in a place far from the wildfires?

Many of us are probably a little disappointed your not going to do a TBN tour to the West Coast and back.
I thought it sounded like an epic journey.
