Good morning!!!!

70°F and rain this morning, going up to 83° today. Some of the rain I drove through this morning was almost too heavy for the wipers on high. Only lasted for a few miles, though.

Wife sent me pictures and a copy of the message she sent to the landscaper this morning, noting the water coming into the corner of our brand new walkout porch. We'd told him that was the reason to not direct any water in that direction. Even after we questioned the new slope of the ground, he assured us it wouldn't be a problem. So, guess who's coming back on Monday to regrade that non-problem. :muttering:

Speaking of the Avon lady ... I almost hit one on the road in front of our place a couple days ago. We'd been thinking it was living in the barn under the corn crib, but our neighbor said he saw it one evening coming out of the railroad tie pile behind the barn (left over from the old retaining wall that we're keeping to build a new shooting berm). Sure does stink up the barn on some days.

We have the warning sirens here, but I'm not sure if or when they are tested, and while one is within a mile of my house, I likely wouldn't hear it if I was inside.

And I guess I'd have to say that I've always been pretty outgoing. I don't think I ever got a report card in grade school without a comment "talks too much" penciled in. And when I'd been a police officer for about 3 years, one day my lieutenant told me, "When you come in tomorrow, report first to the assistant chief in the chief's office." So of course I did, and the assistant chief told me, "We're going to try something new. We've never done any recruiting, except a short ad in the newspaper, so we've decided to try some active recruiting and want someone who likes the job, looks sharp in uniform, and likes talking to people." So I became the police department's first recruiter. I was told I was being transferred to the Personnel Division and to report to the captain in that division, so the next morning, I went to see that captain and asked, "What am I supposed to do?" and he said, "That's for you to figure out, go find us some police applicants." So I did.

Great story Officer Bird! That explains why so many came to your birthday party that your daughter planned for you years ago.

Rip, Hard parent or "helicopter" parent? I've been told I'm helicopter dad....Not sure the difference. Just trying to keep kids safe and tutor them to make wise decisions when I'm not around.

So I work with a lot of highly educated people, mostly in the STEM areas of education. (science, technology, engineering and math) also biology..... Many of them are so introvertive, we have long hallways like "Get Smart" show, and they'll walk right past you without even saying Good Morning....But they have learned they can't usually get past me without saying something as I always try to greet them. Having smart people to learn from has been rewarding. Learning about technology too. I only wish I was younger so I could retain half of what goes by.... I was told early on at this job, that they have to put their pants on 1 leg at a time.

THE GREAT AMERICAN VANAGON TOUR
COMING SOON TO A TOWN NEAR YOU!!!

RNG, make sure you can fold down the handlebars and get that beemer in the back of the vanagon somehow.

Farmer, if you keep up, you might have to change your "handle" to rancher.

P. U. I hate skunks.

Off today, going to take lunch to our middle daughter at school. Need to do a few chores first.

Have a great day all, and prayers!

The receiver hitch motorcycle carrier is only good for 450 pounds, Kyle, and the Beemers are a bit too portly for it. That spot'll have either a Yamaha XT225 or the Honda Trail 90 in it.

Which reminds me, I can report that the aluminum bumpers that I've been chasing for many:confused2: months are supposed to ship next week. I must have a knack for finding eccentric geniuses that are also very, very bad at business.

And since were on the topic of the Vanagon, the mechanic let me know yesterday that the only shop in town he'll use for alignment purposes can't get to it until Monday. And that he's seeing an unusual wear pattern on the front tire treads. Soooooo, no van pickup this week after all. Just as well, as the window of mild temperatures is closing before I could get the prep work done for the paint job, but will open again by the end of next week.

Good Morning!!!! 69F @ 8:00AM. Sunny. High 88F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

I always wondered what I'd do if a skunk ever got caught in the Have-A-Heart. Thanks, fellas! I could use some help understanding the Avon Lady connection though, Thomas!:confused2:

Glad you're finished with that roof and down off the ladder, Wng. Them things is dangerous!

I was delighted and more than a little surprised when I plugged the reconfigured switch cluster into the old motorcycle yesterday and everything worked as it should. Figgered since I was on something of an electrical roll, I'd take another shot at getting the 17" Mac running again. Re-formatted the SDD again, installed a fresh copy of the OS, but it still wouldn't boot off it when I used the USB interface. Put the drive back inside it, printed the username/password and some symptoms on sticky notes stuck to the keyboard, and put the back cover on, all set to go to the repair shop. Just for kicks tried to boot it again and miracle of miracles, it came up. Used it a couple times through the day, and now this morning, and seems fine again. Gonna clone that drive to an external USB in case it goes schitzoid again.

All that was good, but the best part of the day was when the new parts guy called and told me the cables I ordered Tuesday were in. Gave me an excuse to take a motorcycle ride down to pick them up. And to figure out how the GoPro camera worked. Took a while to get it going, and it was a bit warm outside in full leathers, but it was a fun ride none-the-less. Came back on the old Honeyrun Road, right by the covered bridge, a nice, shady, twisty, and narrow country lane. Nice way to finish up the day.

Hope the luck holds today as well. For all of you, too!

TGIF gang!:drink:
