27 outside this AM, may get to 40 today. Far cry from earlier this week. Suns up, snow clouds in the sky. LOL. Calling for some later.

Hope all have a great weekend. Nothing on the agenda, maybe cleanup and work on the Milk House. Need to take the wife for a walk again.

Be safe, get or stay healthy.

have been reading about Starlink for RVs. 150 bucks a month plus 600 for portable, 2500 for in-motion.
there are now lots of videos on this but I never knew one could look up in the sky on a clear night
and see Musk's "satellite train" go by.

first I thought it was a joke but apparently you can see them.

hopefully none of our current planes go up this high.
I can see the supply ship for the space station having to dodge these things going by...apparently there are many thousands of these
things flying around "up there".
Sure hope they are designed to burn up when they finally fall down.
Space junk is already a problem.

Is a low earth orbit permanent? Beyond the pull of gravity?
good thing a homeowner policy covers you for "falling objects".

Good Morning
It’s cold out here today 22 when I got up and won’t be above freezing.

Yesterday was pretty much all day in the shop. Had to clean up and get organized for speaker building. When I moved the carryall, I noticed it had a small oil spot under it. Apparently I lost the washer on the drain plug the last time I changed the oil. I have aluminum washers faced with neoprene, but not in the right size, so I used a copper sealing washer. Hopefully it will stop acting like a Harley now.
Picked up some 5x5 sheets of Baltic Birch and got to work cutting out parts and getting them ready for assembly. I’ll cut all the dados today.

I was surprised that all of the supply channels opened up about the same time after over a year of unavailability. Electronic components for crossovers are still spotty, but with some substitution, I was able to get what I needed. Things like getting higher value inductors and unwinding to the values that I need, or using more expensive, higher voltage rated capacitors than I needed, but I’m back in production for now.

Music went well last night, keyboard player is on a cruise, so we played stuff that worked without him.

Today will find me doing wood work in the shop pretty much all day, making sawdust and speaker cabinets at the same time. Will have to run to HD for a case of Loctite PL urethane adhesive, it’s what I use for all the joints, there are no mechanical fasteners used in the construction other than a few pin nails for alignment. Just dados glue and clamps.

For a connection that is just audio, I’d use the optical, it’s a smaller, more flexible cable. And you are correct, no difference in the 1’s and 0’s.
I'm likely to have to drill a hole to route some cables in a cabinet so the smaller cable is a much better idea. Thank you.
Fiber optics is a remarkable invention that has changed our world.
I figured once it went digital, it was all up to the amp and speakers in the sound bar.
Does that mean the soundbar has a DAC? (digital to analog converter)

the sound bar will also do wireless inputs from devices/tech I still have not learned.

glad you got your wood. I'm sure priced like they flew it first class from the Baltics...

Good Morning!!!! 36F @ 5:30AM. Mainly cloudy. High 49F. Winds SSE at 5 to 10 mph.
Picked up an inch of precipitation yesterday, mostly rain before the early morning snowfall, then more rain in the afternoon. Almost all the snow was melted by sundown.
Looks like a dry day on tap, but more rain on the way for tomorrow through mid week. Then a couple more dry days before more rain for next weekend. The weeds are happy for the moisture, and it's time to get the sprayer fired up again.

Sorry to read the bad news on your wife, RS, but glad your persistence paid off. Will you be testing yourself, too?

Snow is such a rarity here I thought it worth a video. Here's a pop up flight made after it almost stopped snowing, and the snow was already melting.
The Mini was complaining about high winds at the top of the flight, in that it was unable to maintain position against the wind. I brought it down fast enough that I missed the landing pad by a few feet, but that's better than having to fish the drone out of the lake.

Didn't get the start on taxes I'd have hoped because another house came up down south that was worth a look. Nice size on a cul-de-sac, big back yard and possible RV access down one side of the lot. Had to dig around in the Santa Barbara County Municipal Code to sus out the zoning regulations for accessory buildings, but it looks like I can build up to 1250 sq. ft. without any issues. The realtor will visit it tomorrow and tie me in on a zoom call where he'll stream video as he walks around the place. That should be interesting...

I'd like to gather up the ash from the last burn pile and get it moved down to the ditch I've been dumping in, but it might be too wet still. If so, it'll be another inside day.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Morning all, 26 going up to 34 and so far cloudy, but at least wind has died down.
HF visit was meh, did get some of what I needed, but many things showing in stock online, were not in stock when I got to the store.
Replaced wheelbarrow wheel, had to cut spacers down to fit, used new vise, went easy.

Trip to UPS store to send some tax papers, $18 for cheapest ground with signature :-(

RS-sorry to hear about the aggravation. We tried to get paxlovid, but failed and had to suffer through two weeks of misery. So many hoops, glad you were able to get through them.

Ron I use the xfinity app to report outages for cable. As long as cell is up it works, though slooooow

Drew-when I first started working with DACs they were about 4x2", now they fit on a chip that might fit on a fingernail. even the amplifiers are usually just one chip or 2 to get better cooling.
It was fun taking my sons guitar amp apart and showing him what each section did, though I think he got overwhelmed.

Today I need to clean out the fireplace and stack some more wood. Based on weather we will see what else.

Be well,

Morning, 36 going to 39. Showing forecast for a couple of hours of snow but likely not much. Wife wants to get out of the house for a little trip so will see where we may go.

RS, glad you were able to get through and get the Paxlovid lined up. My doctor when I tested positive with home test did not insist of another test but set up up a tele session and then prescribed Paxlovid on the same day.
Seems he wanted to get his money..

Cleaned up the garden area yesterday and tilled the planting area since the tiller is still mounted on the tractor. Also tilled an area at the pond. A little clumpy because still wet but will do more later. Also cleared an area for trees down at the end of the pond.

Drew, I will likely be able to meet on April 2. Will check when closer to the date. Those camp ground fees have sure gone up a lot. No wonder many are boon docking it. Must be a big expense for full timers.

I think I got daughter started on making a plan for using her 10 months of vacation so she does not loose any. Her first step is to take 4 day weekends and then April off. She also talked to her civil service friends like her about setting up vacation plans. Lots of guilt about taking time off.

31°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 51° today.

Drove into Highland this morning and was surprised by the amount of damage along the way from the storm earlier this week. Lots of trees either down or broken in half, road signs laying over sideways, and one large chunk of metal twisted up and laying in the middle of a field, looked like half of a silo, but couldn't tell whence it came as there are no farm buildings in that direction.

I truly appreciate all the kind comments regarding all the bad news here recently. You guys are too kind. Evey gets a little weaker every day, but doesn't seem to be in pain. My uncle's funeral was Thursday. Nephew's visitation is tomorrow evening, then funeral Monday morning. Be glad to be past this.

Nice video, RNG. My friend in S. Lake Tahoe has been getting absolutely pummeled with snow this year. Interesting that you're getting some as well, albeit not the 7-ish feet they've gotten over there. Did you build a tiny snowman?

Hope you guys with storm issues can get them resolved quickly.

Laundry room looks great, David.

Glad to see you're getting some birch again, Paul. The electronics components supply chain is still a nightmare. Some of our suppliers at work still have a 52 week lead time for some stuff. Crazy.

Good Morning, gents.

63°F and 1.59 inches rain

Impromptu trip to Costco this morning. More a way to burn gas in the Subaru than a great need, but we do have a small list.

No other plans other than attempt to stay dry. Already over 32 inches rain this month.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

You should follow the Starlink thread.

I have an RV system on pause. At $150 month now (can’t just pay for a week) I probably won’t use it again. I ran my house with it for a couple months until Elon agreed to sell the home unit with best effort. So I’ve paid $1200 for 2 systems.
Quite frankly, I prefer RV slots in the trees. The starlink needs to be out in the open. It would work great at that beach spot, but not great in any campground with trees.

I’ll try sell RV unit for $300.

They reduced our chance of snow yesterday.4”, this morning to 48% of .1” now, 10 minutes later it changed to 19% chance of rain, no longer chance of snow.

35° now and overcast. Was sunny earlier.

Good morning. 50 degrees at 4am going to 65. The next week's forecast says it remains warm going into the 70's and 80's. Trees are budding and cringing at the inevitable "before Easter" artic blast that will come, as in many prior years.
Fertilizer prices are temporarily down depending on what mix you want. Cautioned by local suppliers that this may not last. Of course, few are fertilizing now.

American Legion pancake breakfast this morning. If you are near Lexington, stop in (8-10a). :)

To all, be safe and have a good day. 🌈🙃
For its size Lexington seems to always have something going on.

I still need to get over there for some Snow’s BBQ.
