Have you tried your saw with different capacity batteries Roy ? Mine came with the 2 Ah and that leaves a safe amount of lubricating oil left when the battery goes flat. With the larger capacity batteries you must need to check the oil tank and refill long before the battery ran out of power.

I will try and get a measure of how long this battery lasts next time I'm cutting firewood and report back. My guess at the moment is that 2 AHr is just short of what a full tank of fuel would do with my Stihl MS181. It won't replace my larger Husky for when there is a lot of heavy cutting to do, but once I get another battery I can see it taking over most jobs from the little Stihl as it's so easy to use.

I have a 2.5 and 5 aH battery. IIRC, I have used the 5aH battery. However, I've never had a job big enough that the battery (if freshly charged) ran out of juice. I check the bar lube reservoir pretty frequently and I carry a smaller bottle of it when ever I'm sawing (unless I'm close to the house).
As you wrote, the EGO saw isn't going to do the job of a big saw, but it sure takes cares of my needs.

31 right now...high in the mid-50's.
I hope it dries up enough to mow today...that, and removing leaves from the front gutters, are the chores today.

If the charger really does fill a battery in only 40 minutes, it would make a good escuse for a spot of tea so you can both recharge for another round, eh Eric?

Good Morning!!!! 68F @ 5:30AM. Sunny. High 74F. Winds NE at 15 to 25 mph.

We're under a Red Flag Warning until Monday night due to very low humidity and high winds. Last year's firestorms in Santa Rosa and Santa Barbara occured during similar conditions, and lack of maintence on the local utility's power lines was blamed in several instances. Now we learn that PG&E has installed weather stations throughout it's territory, and has designated several areas, including where I live, as extremely hazardous. They'll be preemptively turning off the electric power in those areas based on weather conditions. Looks like it's finally time to get that LP generator and transfer switch installed.

That's a tough spot to be in with your knee, Ted. You know, doctors are no different than football players, auto mechanics, or dentists: Most are good, but some really stink. Sports medicine has made astonishing leaps in recent years, and maybe there's a medical center out there that can give you more options than are availabe in Albuquerque. And a little Googleing won't put any stress on that knee...

Finished up the horn install on the old BMW yesterday, and tidied up the rest of the wiring harness. The battery I've been using in the bike isn't sized properly for it, but will work with a wooden spacer under it, which I made and painted yesterday. When I went to remove the battery I learned that some of the wires I'd installed were in the way, so had to do some minor rearranging there. Today I'll put the seat back together with the new foam and cover that came last week, reconnect the battery, and put the tiny handlebar fairing on. Tomorrow the post office is supposed to deliver the new ignition, and it would be nice to be able to try it out and hear the thing run.

Now if only PG&E will leave the electricity on. This morning when I turned a light on, it was flickering badly. I thought it might be the lamp, but they were all doing it. So maybe the utility has more problems to worry about than just the wind blowing down trees into power lines?:confused2: Two years ago they were fined for diverting millions of dollars from a fund set aside for power line maintenance to give bonuses to shareholders. Now those ill sown seeds are sprouting, and their negligence is resulting in no power days and more fires. I don't believe in socialism, but when corporate greed and mismanagement in a monopoly results in catastrophic fires and service compromises, it's time for more stringent government oversite. But in this case, it would be easy to argue that the gummint is complicit as well, as the Public Utilities Commision has been overseeing PG&E's activities for many years.

Hope everyone enjoys the other half of their weekend!

I've learned it's best to not upgrade the software on Apple hardware much past the point there Apple moves on to newer stuff. Unfortunately, that means at some point, security patches and fixes that enable newer apps to work stop coming, and you're left in a situation like what you have with the iPads. It'll cost about what the laptop I sent in to get it working again, and I already know the latest and greatest from Apple won't run on it. So I'll disable automatic upgrades, and be content to just read email and surf the web on it. As far as i can see, Apple has the iOS devices pretty much locked down as far as longetivity. My iPhone 4S is several generations past anything Apple currently supports, and isn't much good for anything but maybe a camera. I guess that's just the price of progress, but what's being offered as latest and greatest isn't so great. Not sure what to tell ya, as it's the same situation over on the Android side. Kinda like the car situation. Lots of folks just lease a car now, drive it a year or two, and turn it in for a new one with all the latest buzzers and whistles. Fools and their money...

Thanks, I guess I'll just call them goners. Count me as 1 who despises Apple's planned obsolescence MO. My old Dell with Vista is still chugging along, but I get warnings from Chrome about no support and it could be hacked...maybe time to use Firefox.

Had a bit of an eventful morning so far... While sitting and sipping the southern pecan decaf coffee my wifey made us, the chickens started squawking their panic squawk out front and as I ran out the door, I saw the hawk flying off again.....I don't think it got anything, but not sure if he punctured any chicken's with his talons. Went to look for it, only to see it fly further away off our property. While quietly sitting in the gator, hoping to catch a glimpse, a 6 or 8 point buck came within about 40 meters, but then noticed me and ran back in the woods. I filmed him with my phone. I guess I'd better go check the coop to see if the chickens are alive.

Kind of cold this morning 15° with about 3 inches of new snow, but no wind. Today is going to be in the low 30's with some clearing this afternoon.

I didn't do much of anything yesterday. I'm pretty sure that's what I'm going to do today. The elk season opens tomorrow for the general tag. I'm probably going out in the morning and see if I can find one. I also have a cow tag that opens the first of November in a different area. That's the one that the friends from NC has tags for, looking forward to going with them.

RNG ... What trucking company are you working with on your bumpers? Maybe they can interline them with a company that services your area.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Good morning to all! Heavy overcast this morning, rain about 35 miles away, but on the other side of the mountain. Supposed to get some of the moisture by this afternoon. Hope so. During the few summer monsoon rains, the grasses suddenly sprouted, grew a foot tall, then dried out. Makes it a great source of fire fuel now.

Thanks for all the support about the knee. Dealing with it is really getting old at this point. I pretty much know it's limit and don't push it anymore. Going to head outside and get a few things organized for the winter months.

Everyone enjoy your Sunday, May it be peaceful and uneventful. Prayers sent for all.

The shipper went through a freight broker called Freight Center. The contract ended up with Saia. The finger pointing that's going on now centers around where the incorrect delivery info came from. I have written records on my end that I supplied the correct address, but now the bumper supplier is waffling about the Freight Center web software not accepting the address as valid, so he had to fudge it a little. He's admitted his mistake, and offered a partial reimbursement on the charges, so hopefully tomorrow I can make a drive and be done with it.

Now I just have to make sure the truck will start. When I hooked a charger up to the batteries day before yesterday, the Battery Saver said they were down to 50%. Now I'm thinkin' I might have a charging issue, too.:pullinghair:
